Reba McEntire Talks Kelly Clarkson’s Divorce from Brandon Blackstock

by Taylor Cunningham

Since June of last year, Kelly Clarkson has been going through a very bitter and public divorce with estranged husband Brandon Blackstock. And as Reba McEntire told Extra, she hopes friends and fans give the two encouragement and support right now because they need it more than ever.

What comes as a surprise to some people is that Reba McEntire is Brandon Blackstock’s ex-stepmother. Reba divorced his father, Norville Blackstock, after 26 years of marriage. But despite the separation, she still considers Brandon a son.

In an interview with Extra, Alecia Davis brought up the similarities between Reba and Kelly’s divorces. And she asked Reba if she’s been able to offer the Miss Independent artist advice throughout Kelly’s ongoing battle.

“You know, I love them both,” she answered. “Brandon’s my stepson, Kelly’s my good friend… I am pulling for both of them.”

Furthermore, Reba doesn’t want the public to take sides. And she wishes both Brandon and Kelly peace and happiness.

“I hope they’re happy and healthy and pull through this. I pray everyone gives them the encouragement they can because they need it right now, both of them do.” Then she added, “I love the both of them with all my heart.”

Kelly Clarkson filed for divorced last year after nearly seven years of marriage. She cited irreconcilable differences on the court docs. Then in a few months later, she told the audience on The Kelly Clarkson Show that she and her ex were on different paths in life.

“People, like, could be bad for you in a certain time. And I think that everybody just goes, ‘Oh, well that means they’re bad.’ Well, it doesn’t necessarily mean that” she said. “It just means that you’re on different paths. And I think that that’s OK. Everybody’s on a different learning curve.”

Reba McEntire Finds Independence After Divorcing Husband of 26 Years

On Apple’s Time to Walk podcast, Reba McEntire told People about the changes she went through after divorcing her husband of 26 years, Narvel Blackstock. Reba said the year was shrouded in pain and loss because not only did she end her relationship and walk away from her stepsons, she also lost her father.

“Four men who were rock and pillars of my world were gone,” Reba remembered.

And those men were also heavily involved in her music career. Blackstock was particularly important to her fame because he was her acting manager. She also lost her production manager and CEO. So she had no choice but to run her business herself.

“I started taking over signing the checks,” she said. “And then I started realizing how much water cost, and the electric bill, and all the things that [were] going on in my life. I made the money. I brought it home. So it was a huge, huge change for me.”

So the country singer turned to god for a little support.

“Everything that I was dealing with privately, personally — I had to run it all through God,” she added. “I had to say, ‘OK big boy, I can’t handle this. This is way over my pay grade. I don’t know what to do.’ And I would wait. And He would guide me. And so without my faith, I have no idea where I would be or my career would be, at this time today.”
