George Strait, the country legend we all know and love celebrated his 50th anniversary with his wife, Norma Strait. He performed a song dedicated to his wife on December 4, 2021, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He met Norma when he was 19 years old, and she was 17. They have been in love ever since.

This song has always been special to him since he wrote for his lovely wife.

In the video, you can hear fans tearing up at how powerful these lyrics are. They are one of country music’s precious matches.

The George Strait Instagram wished them love on their special day.

“Send George and Norma some love for their anniversary today!”

If this isn’t couples’ goals, I don’t know what is. Head on over to Instagram to wish them a happy anniversary in the comments!

Where It All Began

First, their magical love story began in high school in Pearsall, Texas, just southwest of San Antonio. He told the Bull 100.3 that Norma was the first girl he ever loved.

Taste of Country was able to interview him on this special moment.

“We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town. I never really even thought anything about her, but then one day I asked her out and we went on a date. We didn’t see each other for a long time after that,” Strait said. “Then one day, I thought, ‘I’m missing the boat here,’ and we started dating again.”

After a few years went by the couple got married. They eloped in Mexico on December 4, 1971, with a Church wedding in Pearsall, as well.

After the wedding Strait joined the U.S. army where he served at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Norma Strait went along with him for support. One year later, their first child, Jenifer Strait arrives on October 6, 1972.

While in Hawaii, he began his country music career with a group in the Army, Rambling Country. Additionally, his first single, Unwound released in 1981. This was the same year they welcomed their second child, George “Bubba” Strait Jr.

His first No. 1 hit Fool Hearted Memory certainly helped him climb to the top of the charts in 1982.

Unfortunately, his world came crashing down when his daughter, Jennifer was killed in a car accident in San Marcos, Texas at 13-years-old. He still keeps quiet about the incident to this day.

For more information on this tragedy, you can read or donate at the “Jenifer Strait Foundation.” Her memory will live on forever.
