Scotty McCreery Remembers ‘Cool Moment’ When He Met George Strait

It’s always interesting to learn about other celebrities being starstruck. In a sit-down interview with Pop Culture’s Victoria Moghaddami, Scotty McCreery discussed the first time he ever met King of Country Music, George Strait.

“That was like, nuts to me!” the artist said when the topic presented itself. McCreery met George Strait in 2011 during an event at the Ryman Auditorium. Interestingly, the King of Country music actually approached him. Scotty McCreery had just broken into the realm of country music at the time. He explained that his label was hosting an event at the auditorium when the two met.

“I didn’t even know he was gonna be there, or was there,” McCreery said. “I get a tap on my shoulder, ‘Hey, Scotty!’ And I turned around and it’s George freaking Strait!” At the time, the artist would have been about 17 or 18 years old. Imagine such a legend casually tapping you on the shoulder with a simple “Hey!”

McCreery confirmed it was definitely a memorable occasion and that the moment itself was a complete shock.

Scotty McCreery’s Newest Album Shows Some Influence From George Strait

Scotty McCreery further said during the interview that one of the songs on his new album Same Truck took direct influence from the sounds and themes of country legend George Strait. While meeting the artist was a memorable occasion, McCreery also said he is a “massive” fan of The King.

The new song, which we Outsiders can’t wait to hear, goes by “Damn Straight.” And while the young artist said the new album doesn’t premiere until September 17, we can take comfort in at least knowing what to expect from the new song and, most likely, the overall album.

“I think if you’re a country fan, you gotta love George Strait,” McCreery opined. “He’s got those songs that just take you back to a certain moment in time…certain years, relationship[s], or…a family member.”

And we absolutely agree. Nevertheless, we are excited to see whether or not Scotty McCreery’s upcoming album does the same thing for us as listeners.

‘Same Truck’ is a Collection of Songs Originated During Pandemic Shutdowns

The singer-songwriter managed to put the most time and focus onto this new album as it originated during the pandemic. The artist further acknowledged the extreme devastation that ravaged populations internationally. However, he is trying to keep a positive spirit. He puts emphasis on highlighting all of the positive things that came out of the chaos of 2020.

While fans will soon be treated to what is shaping up to be a highly impressive new album, McCreery also got to spend more time with his wife throughout, Gabi Dugal, throughout the pandemic. He further shared, “I try and keep things in perspective,” Scotty McCreery said, “and realize how cool of a job I got.”

For him, he said what he’s most proud of is where he came from which was on “American Idol.” While he said he was previously known as the “Idol” kid, he believes his new album will remedy that. He hopes that through the combined efforts of his previous album and the new release of Same Truck will show country music fans how he’s developed into a real country artist and a songwriter.
