Eja Lange, country star Shania Twain’s only son, was born on Aug. 12, 2001, making him 19 years old at this point. Twain is clearly devoted to her son, sharing baby pictures on social media over the years and telling an interviewer she survived her divorce because of him.
Shania Twain Adores Her Son Through Good Times and Bad
Twain married music producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange on Dec. 28, 1993. The couple met at Fan Fair in Nashville that June. They named their only son Eja, pronounced “Asia.”
Lange has worked with musicians ranging from AC/DC to Maroon 5 and Lady Gaga. And he produced Twain’s hit 1997 album Come On Over.
But after 14 years of marriage, Twain and Lange parted ways over the latter’s affair with Twain’s friend and personal assistant Marie-Anne Thiebaud.
When Lange ended their marriage, it was Thiebaud’s husband, Frederic, who told Twain that their spouses had cheated with each other. Over time, Twain and Frederic then became romantically involved – a happy ending that was “twisted, but so beautifully twisted,” Twain told AARP Magazine. She and Frederic married in 2011.
Twain told Kelly Clarkson on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that it was Eja who kept her going through the devastating divorce process.
“You’re like, ‘No, I’m a mom,’” Twain said. “’I’m gonna do my best. I’m committed to this.’ And that is a very healthy – I don’t want to say distraction, but – preoccupation, that you love and enjoy.”
“So, it just wasn’t always about me all the time and I think that was very very helpful,” she added.
Twain Shares Photos of Eja as a Baby
For the most part, Twain has managed to keep Eja out of the limelight. But she couldn’t resist sharing some cute baby photos of her son on special occasions.
For instance, on Mother’s Day last year, she shared a snapshot of herself holding a wide-eyed Eja, the latter clad in a white jumper.
And in 2019, Twain told Entertainment Tonight that Eja is interested in pursuing a music career. He doesn’t go for the spotlight, but he enjoys the creative process.
“He’s very passionate about making music, creating music, composing music – he doesn’t have this desire to be on stage,” Twain said. “I’m not sure if he would ever go in that direction. He’s following more in the footsteps of creating the music. He loves to orchestrate music. I’m very happy for him!”
If Eja does go in that direction, he’ll already have a foot in the door via his two famous parents!
