Shania Twain, Toby Keith, and Brad Paisley have earned nominations to potentially be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The class of 2021 has announced the names of 12 nominees up for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (NaSHOF). Furthermore, plenty of notable names appear in the Artist/Songwriter category.

On November 1, 2021, in the Music City, only one artist will be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame along with two of this year’s nominated songwriters, reports CMT. The competition isn’t anything to look over, though.

The Artist/Songwriter category nominees include Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Shania Twain, and Phil Vassar. However, the nominees in the writing category feature Rhett Akins, Buddy Cannon, Larry Cordle, Carl Jackson, Mary Ann Kennedy, David Malloy, Frank J. Myers, and Tia Sillers.

In addition, due to the pandemic, this year will also highlight the class of 2020. These talented names include Steve Earle, Bobbie Gentry, Kent Blazy, Brett James, and Spooner Oldham.

The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Executive Director Mark Ford said about the highly anticipated double-feature event.

“We were forced to postpone our 50th Anniversary celebration last year, so this will be our ’50/51′ party—celebrating two years and two classes in a special double-sized event,” says Ford. “We congratulate all of this year’s nominees and look forward to next month when we will announce those who will be inducted as members of the Class of 2021.”

Meet the Hall of Fame Competition

Why are Twain, Paisley, and Keith up for the award?

Toby Keith has written 45 Top 20 songs on the Billboard charts. Furthermore, 17 made it to the Top 10 position, and 16 of those went on to top the charts. In 2015, Toby Keith was inducted into New York’s Songwriters Hall of Fame.

On the other hand, Brad Paisley has written 33 songs that have placed him in the Billboard Top 20. Fifteen of Paisley’s hits have made it to number one, while 14 more were within the Top 10.

However, don’t forget about the talented Shania Twain. She has self-penned 22 Top 20 Billboard songs, including seven number ones and eight more in the Top 10. Twain has already been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

And while Phil Vassar isn’t nearly as famous as his competition, that does not diminish his incredible songwriting efforts. Throughout the late ’90s, Vassar wrote hit songs for artists like Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina. The tune that put Vassar’s name on the map was “Just Another Day In Paradise,” as his first number one. He also created the songs “American Child,” “In A Real Love,” and “Last Day Of My Life.”
