Taylor Swift’s iconic hit, ‘Our Song‘ debuted in 2007, giving Swift her first Billboard Country #1. She was the youngest artist ever to write and sing a top Country single. But did you know the story behind the teen’s love song?
The music star admitted in an interview that she wrote ‘Our Song’ as a freshman in high school for her talent show.
“At that time, I was dating a guy, and we didn’t have a song,” said Swift. “So I wrote us one, and I played it at the show. Months later, people would come up to me and say, ‘I loved that song that you played.’ And then they’d start singing lines of it back to me. They’d only heard it once, so I thought, ‘There must be something here!'”
She admits that the whole writing process only took her 20 minutes to complete, along with another hit, “Tim McGraw.” These two songs also share the inspiration behind them. The lucky boy that Swift wrote the songs about is named Drew.
When making her album, she insisted on her producers to record it, claiming she “knew there was something about it.” Once recorded, she asked for ‘Our Song’ to be placed last on the album due to the last line being “play it again,” which she hoped would hint at the listener to do so.
Taylor Swift’s Trophy Cabinet
The song stayed the number one single on the Billboard Hot Country Song chart for six straight weeks. In addition, the song made its way into the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Mainstream Top 40 charts. The star was only 15-year-old.
To list a few of the awards Taylor Swift has won over the years are Favorite Country Album at the American Music Awards, Billboard Woman of the Year, Video of the Year, and Artist of the Year. She is also the second artist, behind Michael Jackson, to be honored with an award named after them. She earned this honor at the 64th BMI Pop Awards.
How many awards has the artist received? It is noted that she has won 348 awards and has been nominated for 787, while 12 are still pending. I guess you could call her a big deal.
