Today we fall in love with Alan Jackson all over again in celebration of his first number one hit song.
30 years ago today, country music superstar Alan Jackson’s “I’d Love You All Over Again” hit number one. The song is about proclaiming your love after years of marriage. Even after all the ups and downs of relationships, you can still look at your partner and say, “I’d do it all over again.” During the song, Jackson sings, “Has it been ten years since we said I do? I’ve always heard marriage made one seem like two. But you’re looking better than you did back then. You still make this old heart give in. And if I had it to do all over, I’d do it all over again. If tomorrow I found one more chance to begin, I’d love you all over again.”
Jackson released the song in January 1991 as the final single from his debut album, Here in the Real World. The song spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and soared to the number one spot. “I’d Love You All Over Again,” became Alan Jackson’s first number one hit song ever. Since then, Jackson has accumulated 26 number-one hit songs.
So, was there a special someone Jackson was thinking about when he wrote, “I’d Love You All Over Again?” The answer is yes. Jackson wrote the song for his high school sweetheart (and wife) for their 10th anniversary.
Alan Jackson Reveals Why He Always Wears A Cowboy Hat ‘I Have A Big Scar On My Forehead’
“There’s a couple of them around where I’d raised my hat to say something, or I’m waving goodbye. My wife and people in the office have shown me some of those—some of them look pretty rough and some of them look pretty good. But yeah, I’ve just kinda gotten used to wearing them,” said Jackson.
But no one’s ever wondered why cowboy hats seem to be almost glued to Jackson’s head constantly. After all, he’s a country music star. So, it seemed like he was just following a tradition of the greats that came before him like Hank Williams and Merle Haggard. However, there’s a secret reason behind why Jackson prefers to wear hats. When Jackson was a young boy, he accidentally ran through a glass door. The injuries left him with a big scar across his forehead.
“I had a—and I still have it—a big scar on my forehead from when I ran through a glass door when I was little. And I was always self-conscious, so when I started singing in high school it kinda bothered me,” said Jackson. “It was bigger and bolder then. I guess it’s kinda worn down over the years. I first started wearing a hat when I was about 17, my old brown cowboy hat. That’s the hat I wore to Nashville when I came.”
Alan Jackson even has advice for everyone who is looking to rock a cowboy hat but isn’t sure if they could pull it off.
“It’s about picking what fits your face and head right—if you’ve got a wider, bigger head you need a wider brim. You don’t want a small brim if you’ve got a big head. And same way with that crown. The top of the hat, you’ve gotta be careful with that. You really have to experiment with it and pick colors that are good,” said Jackson.
