Eleven years ago today, Lady A released their second studio album, Need You Now.

Need You Now won Best Country Album and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 53rd Grammy Awards. Additionally, “Need You Now” the album’s title track and first single landed Lady A their second number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song won four awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammys.
Lady A Celebrates Grand Ole Opry Induction
Becoming a member of the legendary Grand Ole Opry is a coveted milestone for country music artists. The Nashville, Tennesse venue is the heart and soul of country music and has hosted many legends of the genre.
Darius Rucker recently invited the members of Lady A to become members of the Opry. The trio took to social media to express their gratitude and excitement. The group shared photos of them at the Opry. Along with the photos, they wrote, “This is the best surprise we could ever ask for!! Today while filming for an upcoming Opry special, Darius Rucker invited us to become the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry. To say we are honored is an understatement. We are so grateful to be a part of this amazing family.”
This is a much-needed success after a summer of controversy. The trio decided to change their name this summer. Formerly known as Lady Antebellum, they changed their name to Lady A because they wanted to distance themselves from the Antebellum era. The era represents a time of slavery in the South prior to the Civil War. The Dixie Chicks changed their name to The Chicks recently for similar reasons.
However, blues musician Anita White has used “Lady A” as her stage name since the 1990s. The singer filed a federal lawsuit against the band. The suit claims trademark infringement and unfair competition. The matter isn’t resolved yet, and may not be for a while. Nevertheless, the trio continues to find things to celebrate – including their new Grand Ole Opry membership.
