Seventeen years ago today, Reba McEntire won her first Golden Globe. The country music icon picked up the award in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series for her show, “Reba.” The series aired on the WB.

Reba bested her competition of “Will and Grace” star Debra Messing and “Sex In the City” actress Sarah Jessica Parker. The show ran for six seasons.

McEntire Plays Matriarch in Hit Show

The show is centered around a blended family. Reba, who plays the character, Reba Neil Hart. She’s a single mother trying to raise three kids, Cheyenne, Kyra, and Jake.

The matriarch’s ex-husband on the show, Brock, is also in the mix. He’s a dentist that marries a younger woman, Barbra Jean. However, the pilot episode would later reveal that Jean was pregnant from an affair with Brock.

Reba sees Barbra as an annoying nemesis, but somehow Barbra considered the country music legend as her best friend. Brock and Barbra eventually end up moving down the street from Reba so they can better co-parent the three children that they share together.

As the series progresses, we also learn that Reba’s daughter is pregnant with her high school boyfriend, Van Montgomery. He’s a football player that we see try and make it to the NFL. He and Cheyenne marry later on.

Could ‘Reba’ be Returning?

Just earlier this year, the 65-year-old, who looks like she doesn’t age, chatted about reviving the sitcom.

She told the TODAY Show that she and her fellow castmates have been talking via a group text that was started by Melissa Peterman, who played Barbara Jean on the show.

“We’re all talking, hoping to get back together. We miss each other. It was a fun group to get to play with, work with, so we’d love to do it,” she explains. “Even if it’s a two-hour movie…We’d love to get back together.”

Furthermore, “Reba” was nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. The singer turned actress won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Female Performer in a New Television Series in 2001.
