Thomas Rhett Drops Epic Recap of His Week in Texas

by Madison Miller

Thomas Rhett got a little bit of a sneak peek at what life will be like with live performances and time on the road again.

After a year of nearly no live performances due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, country artist Thomas Rhett booked a gig in Texas. He was in Billy Bob’s Texas on May 6, 7, 8, 13, and 14. He was in the heart of the Forth Worth Stockyards giving country fans a show.

Now, he’s sharing his week in Texas with his devoted fans on social media that couldn’t make it. The video features him performing on the stage as well as signing the famous Handprint Wall of Fame at Billy Bob’s.

“Blame It On A Backroad,” which is off his new album “Country Again (Side A),” is playing in the background of the video.

If you missed Thomas Rhett in Texas or aren’t quite ready for the full concert experience yet, there will be plenty of opportunities in the future. His next appearance will be at Country Fest on June 26 in Cadott, Wisconsin. His full list of shows can be viewed, here.

Beyond getting him back on the stage, Rhett’s time in Texas was special for another reason as well. He shared with his fans for the first time that he and his wife, Lauren Akins, are expecting another child.

“Well… we are pregnant again! Tonight when I was about to play ‘to the guys that date my girls’ my wife talked to me in my (ear monitors) and said ‘you can tell them if you want’ so anyways, now you know. We are pumped to be having our 4th girl,” Rhett wrote on social media.

The Importance Of Thomas Rhett’s New Album

Rhett’s newest album is his fifth so far. It’s also the first release of what will be a double-album project. The second part will come out at some point in 2021.

Thomas Rhett has said in the past that he believes this album, which was made almost entirely during the pandemic, is some of his best work. He has cited Eric Church as a musical influence. The goal was to create an album that would really highlight him as a songwriter.

“I think you don’t realize the weight of music sometimes. Like, I’ve listened to certain songs, and I’m like, ‘Man, this hit me at the perfect moment to [help me] deal with something in my life. The more vulnerable I can be and the more personal I can be, hopefully, that can resonate with somebody else who might be going through something similar,” Rhett said in a press conference for the album, according to CMT.

He specifically notes how vulnerable and important the song “To the Guys That Date My Girls” is to the artist.

“Basically, this song is a letter to the guys who are gonna show up on my doorstep one day and be like, ‘Hey Mr. Akins, I’m here to take your daughter out on a date. I’ve thought about all the ways I would approach that situation. Am I gonna be the super stern dad? Am I gonna be the dad that invites him in for a coffee? You know, what kind of conversation is that gonna be?” Rhett said.

Thomas Rhett co-wrote all the songs on the new album. He has also stated his newer album leans more toward the “traditional” country music sound.
