It’s not quite Father’s Day, but that didn’t stop from Thomas Rhett trying to win Son of the Year award for his dad’s at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Thomas Rhett tweeted out, “Tonight I got to watch my dad, Rhett Atkins, be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Dad, I can’t express how amazed I am at your talent, creativity, drive and even though you have all that drive how calm you are throughout the process.”
Rhett clearly looks up to his dad. He is also incredibly proud of what he’s done. His dad is a talented songwriter. He got inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. The elder Atkins was born in Valdosta, Georgia. He even played football briefly at the University of Georgia. However, he did not finish his studies in Athens. We think it worked out for him. He released eight studio albums to this point, with the most recent coming out in 2008.
Thomas Rhett gives a shoutout to his dad
Thomas Rhett continued, “You always tell me if God wants it to happen, it will. I try to remind myself of that every day. In a business where “hits” drives people you seem to never lose that feeling inside of you that loved writing and singing as a 15-year-old kid, and even though you have that mentality you still touch gold with everything that comes out of your mouth.”
Thomas Rhett is incredibly thoughtful here. As a country music star, it is easy to get lost in finding hits, but that is clearly not something that drives Thomas Rhett or his father. It never has. They are both grounded in who they are what they are about. He mentions that Rhett Atkins still has that child-like persona and love for country music. Part of that is why he is entering the Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame. He never changed who he was over the years. I wouldn’t expect Thomas Rhett to, either.
This is a cool moment for the duo. It would not be a surprise to see Thomas Rhett find himself in the same spot decades from now. The talent is there, just like his dad. That is a rare gift to pass down from father to son. The coolest part, they support each other and this father and son relationship is one to look up to.
