On Monday (November 1st), country singer-songwriter Thomas Rhett takes to Instagram to share a special tribute to his daughter Willa Gray on her birthday.

“Willa in the world are you already 6?????” Thomas Rhett declared. “I love you more than life. You are the best big sister any sister could ask for. You make me a better person just by smiling. Your smile could light up any room. I love getting to be your daddy. Happy birthday sweet baby🙌.”

Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins previously shared details about Willa Gray’s adoption during his 2020 interview with Kelly Clarkson. “I’d always talk about adopting my whole life,” Akins explained. “My mom is actually adopted. I just thought it was really cool. [My wife and I] had talked about it off and on. But it wasn’t something that we’d sat down and had a full-on adoption conversation.”

Thomas Rhett’s wife also shared that she was in Uganda in 2016 and had pictures of one of the babies there. “I shared it on social media. And when I finally got to FaceTime [Thomas] that night, I was telling him her story. ‘Babe, we know so many people who are trying to adopt right now. And this little girl needs a forever home.’”

Akins goes on to add that the second she touched Willa Gray, it was electric. “I was like, ‘Oh, this little girl has just taken my heart.’ And I was like, ‘Honey, we’ve got to find her her forever home. Like, I know that’s why I’m here. To get this girl to her home.’”

Thomas Rhett Opens Up About His Daughter’s Love For Music

During a September 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Thomas Rhett spoke about Willa Gray’s keen interest in music. “Every time I go to my studio, she just watches me walk downstairs. She was like, ‘Are you going to your studio?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, you wanna come?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah,’ and we’ll just go down there and make beats together.”

Thomas Rhett further explained that he’ll play the guitar and hand Willa Gray a microphone. “And she’ll just freestyle. It’s unbelievable.”

Thomas Rhett also shared that wants all of his children to fall in love with music. “I’m not trying to convince any of them to do what I do for a living. But I do think that if I can impart any wisdom on the classics or even just knowing how to craft a song, I think it’s just a really neat trait to possess in life.”

The country singer goes on to say that his children love music naturally and he is there to somewhat help them coach that love. “It’s been a blast. I love getting to watch them enjoy something that I enjoy as well. So it’ll be cool to watch them get older and see what they like.”
