Tim McGraw Reveals He Majored in Pre-Law in college

During a recent interview with Esquire, Tim McGraw revealed that after graduating second in high school class, he went on to major in pre-law while attending college. “And then I discovered playing guitar,” McGraw recalled. “I finally had to make a phone call to my mom and say, ‘I’m going to drop out of college, sell everything I have, and move to Nashville.”

Tim McGraw also admitted that he was wincing while telling his mother about his plans. But she responded surprisingly to his declaration by saying, “If you don’t do it, you’ll always regret it.”

Tim McGraw then discussed having a relationship with his father, Frank Edwin “Tug” McGraw Jr., who was a star pitcher in the MLB.

“People ask me, ‘How could you have a relationship with your father? You were growing up in nothing. He was a millionaire baseball player. He knew you were there. And he didn’t do anything.’ But when I found out Tug McGraw was my dad, it gave me something in my little town in Lousiana.”

The country singer went on to joke about his upbringing. “Growing up with my mom and two sisters and now with my wife and three daughters, you would think my patience would be further down the road than it is.”

In regards to one thing that fans don’t really know about him, Tim McGraw said he doesn’t pay very much for his famous cowboy hats. “I wear a straw hat made by Resistol,” McGraw noted. He then added that it takes about three shows to really sweat through the Resistol hat and for it to start looking good. “Then I’ll wear it three months longer than I should just because I don’t want to break in a new one,” he added.
