Tim McGraw Updates Fans from the Studio Rocking Vintage Keith Whitley Shirt

by Joe Rutland

Country music singer-songwriter Tim McGraw is back in the studio, which is good news for fans looking forward to hearing new music.

McGraw shared a photo of himself wearing a T-shirt with an image of late country music singer Keith Whitley. He doesn’t hide his love of Whitley’s music, including a performance of Whitley’s song “Don’t Close Your Eyes” back in 2020.

Whitley, who found success despite battling alcoholism and addiction through his life, died in 1989. McGraw happened to find himself performing the cover of Keith Whitley’s song in front of a section dedicated to him at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

It was McGraw’s dream to get to Nashville and start his country music career. He did arrive there on May 9, 1989, which is the same day Whitley died from his alcoholism.

“Don’t Close Your Eyes” is written by Bob McDill. Whitley released it in 1988. It was the third single off of the album of the same name.

Tim McGraw Recently Teamed Up With Tyler Hubbard

What is Tim McGraw working on right now? Probably a new album. But his most recent work includes Tyler Hubbard, who is taking a break from his work with Florida Georgia Line. McGraw and Hubbard released “Undivided” in January 2021 and it rocked the country world.

In the week after the song was released, 152 radio stations added it to their airplay rotations. “Undivided” broke a record for the best week ever in Mediabase/Country Aircheck history.

The song received a big boost on the night of President Joe Biden’s inauguration. McGraw and Hubbard sang it live from Nashville as part of the “Celebrating America” special.

McGraw Reminds People That ‘Words Are Medicine’

When McGraw recorded “Undivided,” its words were very important for people to hear to him. That theme is part of why he did “Words Are Medicine.”

That song, “Words Are Medicine,” is a cut off of McGraw’s 2014 album “Sundown Heaven Town.”

Throughout the song, the theme remains that words are medicine. They can either be a potion of healing and nurture, or they can cut and slash a person deep in their soul.

Tim McGraw hopes his words are used to bring people together and not separate them from one another.
