Country superstar Travis Tritt took to his Twitter account to share his thoughts about his hit single “Smoke in a Bar” and why his fans tend to relate and support the track.
Speaking about his fans relating to the hit single, Travis states, “Over the last 15 years or so, I’ve had a lot of people that have written to me or corresponded with me via social media or in person. Some people that I know very well [while] some of them I don’t. But a lot of people seem to have the same desire for nostalgia [with the song].”
Tritt reveals, “Prior to 2020, people have been telling me for years, ‘You know, I like a lot of the country music that’s coming out. But I really miss a lot of the storytelling that country music has been known for.’” He continues, “And then of course in 2020 with all the things we saw in result of the pandemic. As the result of the election year, just the unrest and the division that we saw. A lot of people basically said, ‘You know, man it sure would be nice if we could just somehow go back to a simpler time in life. When the world seems to turn a little bit slower and we didn’t have so much of this constant upheaval.’”
Tritt further comments, “That’s what the song talks about and I think there are a lot of people that are nostalgic for a different time. A different era. And this song speaks to all the people that believe that way.”
Travis Tritt Released ‘Smoke In A Bar’ Earlier This Spring
Travis Tritt released the official video for “Smoke In a Bar” last spring. The song came out 13 years after Tritt released his album in 2007. Travis spoke to American Songwriter about the meaning behind the new single.
“The thing I’ve heard more and more from fans and people inside the industry over the last few years is that people are hungry for the nostalgia of how the music of the nineties sounded. The general way of life in those days,” Tritt comments.
Tritt explains, “The two biggest comments I hear from people are, ‘Man, I wish music sounded the way that it did back then. I wish it told the same kind of stories that the music of that era told.’” He also observes, “The other thing that I hear is, ‘Man, I would love to go back to a simpler time where we didn’t have so many things to worry about and stress over. When things moved just a little bit slower.’”
Travis adds, “As soon as I heard this song, it was like, he said everything that I’m hearing from everybody and sentiments that I agree with across the board.”
Tritt also released a his new album Set in Stone last month, which includes eight songs Travis co-wrote.
