To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Trisha Yearwood’s debut album, she recently released a brand new, acoustic version of her first single, “She’s in Love With the Boy.”
On July 2, 1991, 30 years ago today, a young Trisha Yearwood released her self-titled debut album on July 2, 1991, which ultimately sealed her fate to country music stardom.
Along with the album, Yearwood also released “She’s in Love With the Boy” as the record’s lead single. After its release, the single quickly landed on the No. 1 spot on the Billboard’s U.S. Country chart. As a result, Yearwood became the first female country singer to have a No. 1 hit with a debut single.
Trisha Yearwood Recalls Recording ‘She’s in Love With the Boy’
“We had no idea it would make history,” Trisha Yearwood told People of the song. “It had apparently been around for a few years and had never found the right home. Lucky me! We recorded it 100 percent because we liked the song. I loved the story about nobody being good enough for Daddy’s little girl.”
In retrospect, Yearwood couldn’t be more humble about her climb to country music success. “I don’t think it was until years later that I realized how lucky I had been to have a song like ‘She’s in Love with the Boy’ in my career,” she said. “It’s precious to me now because it represents the beginning, and it represents the longevity of a good song and the loyalty of a fan base.”
Before he became her husband, country star, Garth Brooks co-wrote her second single from the album, “Like We Never Had a Broken Heart.” He also sang backing vocals on the track. It would later climb to the No. 4 spot. The other singles from the album, “That’s What I Like About You” and “The Woman Before Me,” would later hit the Top 10 chart.
For Yearwood’s recent re-release, she changed up the arrangement of “She’s in Love With the Boy” to include acoustic instrumentation. The re-release dropped on the morning of July 2. However, the new rendition features the same fun energy, just like the original recording, but with a new spin.
Trisha Yearwood will also feature the new version on her upcoming deluxe version of her album Every Girl, from 2019. Yearwood is set to release the deluxe edition on Aug. 13.
The deluxe edition of the album also features Yearwood and Brooks’ cover of “Shallow’ from the hit film, A Star Is Born. In addition, it also includes a piano-based ballad titled “I Dare You to Love.”
In addition to re-releasing the album, Yearwood has remained busy. She’s had a string of TV appearances to promote the album. She’s also planning on releasing a new cookbook: Trisha’s Kitchen: Easy Comfort Food for Friends and Family. The cookbook will come out on Sept. 28.
