Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks are two of country music’s biggest sweethearts. And Yearwood is taking a look back at that moment, Brooks asked her to be his wife.
The moment happened on May 25, 2005, on an occasion that neither will ever forget. The two had been friends for decades since the 1980s. But they started dating in earnest during the early 2000s. Finally, in 2005, Brooks realized he wanted to make Yearwood his wife. And her answer?
“I would say ‘yes’ again in a heartbeat! You are the love of my life. Thank you for showing me what really ‘living’ is all about! Together forever, Trisha,” she wrote on Twitter.
Brooks ended up proposing at the Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California. The couple was at a statue unveiling in Brooks’ honor. But Brooks convinced the sculptor to include a wedding ring on his counterpart’s hand. He then got down on one knee in front of thousands of people.
Trisha Yearwood and Her Love for Cooking
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. And Yearwood knows how to do that in spades. Besides her love for Brooks, she has a love for cooking and food as well. Recently, Yearwood had COVID-19, which affected her taste. But she still loves to cook, and previously, she opened up about her time in the kitchen.
“My weakness is decadent food,” she admitted. “Sometimes I do great; sometimes I don’t. I have the blessing and curse of being a pretty good cook, so I can make all the decadent things. But I also challenge myself to make the healthier things taste good. I love to roast a huge pan of root vegetables. Butternut squash, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots. The more you roast a vegetable, the sweeter and more caramelized it gets. I make a big pot of rice or risotto to go with that. That’s comfort food for us and will last a while.”
Yearwood even has her own cooking show. For Yearwood, cooking is a way to stay close to her mother, who passed away in 2011.
“I’m a home cook like my mom,” Yearwood said. “She always said, ‘The worst thing that can happen is [the meal] doesn’t work out—and then you can always order pizza. Don’t stress over it.’ She gave me confidence to give things a shot, and I’ve become a better cook over the years because of that.”
