Trisha Yearwood Says She Doesn’t ‘Love’ Being 56, But Reveals an Important Silver Lining

by Jennifer Shea

Trisha Yearwood is all about the silver linings.

You’re only as old as you feel. And if her friendships are any guide, Yearwood seems to feel as young as ever. The country star said in a recent interview with Taste of Country that she draws strength and inspiration from her friendships with younger women.

“I don’t love being 56 years old in a lot of ways,” Yearwood admitted. “But one thing I do like about it and have enjoyed is that this next generation of female artists, who I’ve become friends with, they grew up on my music. They grew up on the ’90s. And it’s hard for them in a different way.”

“They’ve got things that are easier, and they got things that are way harder,” she added. “And I think that it’s nice to feel like we have each other’s backs.”

Trisha Yearwood Enjoys Being Part of ‘Women’s Club’

As a female country star, Yearwood joins a club of musicians who have fought hard to get their music heard. She said she’s conscious of being one link in a chain that connects Emmylou Harris and Reba McEntire with today’s emerging female artists.

“There’s a women’s club that is great, and the love and the care and the friendship, the camaraderie, is there,” Yearwood said. “And it’s an honor to feel like you’re getting to kind of pass what I got from Emmylou and Reba, pay it forward. And I think these girls will do the same. I think they’ll pay it forward to the next generation.”

Harris joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. McEntire was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. For her part, Yearwood became the second country artist to join the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2005.

Garth Brooks Says Yearwood Should Be In the Country Music Hall of Fame

Yearwood may be part of a women’s club. But she hasn’t joined the mostly male-dominated Country Music Hall of Fame yet. And her husband, country star Garth Brooks, says that’s outrageous.

“One of the greatest crimes in country music history right now: Trisha Yearwood is not in the Country Music Hall of Fame yet,” Brooks told Taste of Country this year. “That is a crime because I cannot tell you how many people have moved to this town because this woman’s voice drove them here. This is the greatest singer we have in country music, arguably. And so I’m a huge, huge fan.”

The country duo first met before their respective careers took off. They recorded a demo together in 1987, per They stayed friends over the years. Then, after they each divorced their spouses, they started dating. They had their first public appearance together in 2002. The couple married in 2005, and it’s been happily ever after ever since.
