WATCH: Barry Gibb Shares Studio Video of Him and Dolly Parton for New Album’s Release

Country and pop music cross over their lines as legends Dolly Parton and Barry Gibb team up to sing “Words,” a song off of Gibb’s new album.

Gibb released a short video clip showing him and Dolly Parton in the recording studio on Twitter on New Year’s Day. He also lets his fans know “Words” is available now for download via streaming services.

Barry Gibb, who founded legendary pop and rock group The Bee Gees along with his late brothers Maurice and Robin, will release “Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook” on Jan. 8.

The Bee Gees set the world alive through their music in the 1960s through the 1980s. Their biggest commercial music record was the soundtrack to the 1977 movie “Saturday Night Fever” which starred John Travolta.

Off that album alone, the brothers Gibb had No. 1 hits like “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “How Deep Is Your Love.”

Barry Gibb Talks About Some Country Music Influences

With this new album, Barry Gibb goes forward into his love of country music that was there before heading into rock and pop music.

Gibb and Jason Isbell both sat down for an interview to talk about their collaboration, upcoming work, and musical inspirations. Isbell also sings a song with Gibb on his new album.

Gibb never liked aligning to a genre. Now he’s exploring more country, rootsy sounds like that of Dolly Parton. They were different than what many considered the Bee Gees’ “sound.”

“I need to give you a little bit of input about our roots,” Gibb said. “We were an immigrant family who moved to Australia in 1958, and from then onwards, we heard so many records from America.

“Roy Orbison and Elvis…these were country stars, but they were also rock stars. George Jones, Dolly…these people had a radical influence on us,” Gibb said.

Dolly Parton Stays Busy But Doesn’t Make Resolutions

Doing this song with Barry Gibb is just another sign that Dolly Parton is not slowing down. The country music legend, singer, and songwriter always keeps busy.

One thing, though, you will not find Parton doing is make any New Year’s resolutions.

“It’s always the same thing: I’m gonna exercise more this year, I’m gonna eat better,” Parton said. “And that lasts for a couple of weeks, and then I’m right back where I started. So I don’t make ’em ’cause I always break ’em.’”

It seems like Dolly Parton pretty much has her life together though. At 73, Parton continues to trailblaze the world.

She almost appears to wake up energized and motivated every day, so maybe she really doesn’t need new year resolutions to keep her focused.

“But I really don’t think about my age,” Dolly Parton said. “If my health holds up, I’ll still be doing this at 95, if I live that long … I only sleep for three hours at a time before I get up and do other stuff. Then I catnap.”
