WATCH: Carrie Underwood Describes Her ‘Perfect Christmas’

by Matthew Wilson

Carrie Underwood has been singing a lot about Christmas lately. But the singer recently opened up about how she spends the holiday and her perfect Christmas.

In a clip for her HBO Christmas special “My Gift,” Underwood described her perfect version of the holiday. It’s unknown if she’ll be able to visit family this year due to the pandemic.

“Generally, we do a lot of traveling around Christmas,” Underwood said. “We’ll either go see my family or my husband’s family. I’ll spend all day cooking, I’ll make a small turkey even though I don’t eat turkey. I’ll make myself some Tofuturkey. Cranberry sauce of course. We do, of course, sweet potato casserole. We got to have that. That’s one of my favorites because it’s a side dish and dessert.”

Family and food make for a perfect holiday combination. Sprinkle a little Santa Claus and presents in there for good measure.

“I’ll just make a ridiculous amount of food. Celebrate and have a fire,” Underwood said. “We wait for Santa and open our presents. Then we’re off to see the next group of family. It’s just all about watching it through my son’s eyes and getting to spend time with family.”

Carrie Underwood Remembers Christmases Past

Underwood also recently opened up about Christmases past. She remembered the holiday season as a child where she would visit her grandparents’ house. Underwood and her family would also decorate the house for Christmas. The country singer hopes to continue these traditions with her sons Isaiah and Jacob.

“For me growing up, Christmas was always just comforting,” Underwood said in a press release. “We always had the same stockings and the same tree and the same decorations. And we would always decorate the weekend right after Thanksgiving. You know, flip the Christmas switch, put the tree up. Now that we’re adults and have kids, we can go to the Christmas tree farm and we can walk around. And we can pick out which one and ask Isaiah, ‘Which one do you think?’ Just things like that, making those memories. It’s just a joyful time of year.”
