George Strait nervous? Well, the country music singer-songwriter admits he felt it entering the last night of “The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.”
The tour, which marked the last time Strait hit the road for fans across the United States, had its final show on June 7, 2014, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It’s known as the home stadium for the Dallas Cowboys.
It also was named Cowboys Stadium for a bit before AT&T bought the naming rights.
Strait released a live album of the concert where 104,793 fans jammed inside to hear the country music legend.
In an Instagram post, Strait talks about his experience on tour and at AT&T Stadium.
A who’s-who lineup of country and pop music stars joined Strait in Arlington for the concert. They included Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, and Martina McBride.
George Strait Is Not A Member Of The Grand Ole Opry
As legendary as George Strait is in country music, it’s hard to believe that the Texan is not a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
But he’s not. Now there’s no real clear reason why Strait is not part of the Opry at all. A possible reason is that he lives in Texas while the Opry stage is in Nashville. Strait no longer tours on the road. All that ended at AT&T Stadium in 2014.
It may be that the number of times Strait might have to appear at the Opry isn’t appealing to him.
Strait joins others like Aldean, Brooks & Dunn, and Alabama who haven’t discovered a way to be a part of the Opry.
Strait, Wife Norma Celebrate 48th Anniversary
He and his wife, Norma, celebrated their 48th anniversary earlier in December. They met in high school in a small town in Texas. Their relationship grew deeper and decided to get married, but they took a unique path.
They eloped in Mexico on Dec. 4, 1971. Then, they repeated the process for their parents at a church in Pearsall, Texas, which is south of San Antonio.
Later that year, George joined the Army. He was stationed in Hawaii.
The Straits had their first child, Jenifer, on Oct. 6, 1972, in Hawaii. Their son George “Bubba” Strait Jr. was born in 1981. Sadly, Jennifer was killed in an auto accident in San Marcos, Texas, when she was 13.
If he’s not on the road performing, then you’ll find George with Norma at their ranch in Cotulla, Texas, which is between San Antonio and Laredo, Texas.
