George Strait and his jeans are so retro-cool. Because we all know a pair of Wranglers are a must-wear for the King of Country, whether he’s singing or working on the ranch.
It makes all kinds of sense that George Strait is a long-time Wrangler spokesman, designer and model. And we dug out one of the commercials Strait made for the almost 120-year-old jeans company. Check out the ad and we’ll tell you more about it on the other side.
George Strait cut the commercial in 1995. The song you hear is Check Yes or No. Strait recorded the song in April 1995 and released it that September. Since we’re talking vintage George Strait, we know this song hit No. 1. The song also was the lead single from the album Strait Out of the Box.
The commercial features George Strait sitting on a front porch, strumming his guitar and singing about love. Then the commercial cuts to a woman grooming her horse. Then you see a young boy tuning an old fashioned radio. Strait’s song is piped over loud speakers. A couple is two-stepping to it. Two cowboys sitting on a fence are watching some calf roping.
Suddenly, you hear some weird sounds. Then George Strait chastises his dog and says “you’re a little off-key there, Buster.”
We hear the narrator: “Wherever you find country music, you’ll find Wrangler.”
George Strait Commercial Featured His No. 1 Hit
The choice of music was perfect. George Strait sang Check Yes or No. It was all about the singer’s first love, EmmyLou. They met in the third grade. He knew she liked him because she passed him a note in school.
But now, the guy and EmmyLou are celebrating 20 years of marriage. Let George Strait weave the story.
Now we’re grown up and she’s my wife, still like two kids with stars in our eyes.
Ain’t much changed, I still chase Emmylou, up and down the hall, around the bed in our room.
Last night I took her out in a white limousine. Twenty years together she still gets to me. Can’t believe it’s been that long ago. When we got started with just a little note. “Do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend?
And if you do. Well then don’t be afraid to take me by the hand. If you want to, I think this is how love goes. Check yes or no.
Strait, Wrangler Have Enjoyed Long Relationship
Back in 1992, Wrangler supplied clothing to the cast of Pure Country. That movie starred George Strait in his acting debut.
By 2003, Wrangler and George Strait collaborated on a new collection of jeans and western shirts. By 2009, Wrangler added country star Jason Aldean to promote its retro line. The company has a specific brand. In years past, Wranglers has joined with the Professional Bull Riders and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assn. Plus, faces of the company have included and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Brett Favre and rodeo champion Trevor Brazile.
And Strait and Brazile co-starred in a Wranglers commercial 2011.
