Jimmie Allen kicked off the Indy 500 with a bang!
The country superstar sang the National Anthem at the legendary speedway on Sunday (May 30). Prior to the official kick-off, he met up with actor Milo Ventimiglia who was the honorary starter.
Allen took the stage in front of our nation’s flags with frontline workers standing behind him. He took off his cowboy hat and held it to his heart. The signature flyover took place while he belted out note after note. 135,000 attendees filled the stands for the 105th running.
Allen had big shoes to fill, in 2020 an all-star country tribute was performed pre-race. Sheryl Crow, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Thomas Rhett, Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, Brett Young, Carly Pearce, Eli Young Band, and Danielle Bradbery performed the Star-Spangled Banner.

Jimmie Allen shared a photo of him and his son, Aadyn, with the legendary trophy on Instagram prior to the race’s kickoff.
Allen has been updating racing fans throughout his journey this weekend. He was even a passenger in a race car for a lap on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“Not even gonna fake it,” he wrote alongside a video of him on the track. “I almost threw up after just one lap. I can’t imagine going around that track 200 times.”
“We are excited to welcome Jimmie to the Racing Capital of the World for a memorable and emotional Memorial Day Weekend performance,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles said in a press release. “This year’s rendition carries extra meaning as we prepare to welcome fans back to the Indy 500 and honor our frontline heroes.”
Jimmie Allen’s Summer Plans
Jimmie Allen will be touring with Brad Paisley this summer. Kameron Marlowe will also join the pair as support. Brad Paisley Tour 2021 will kick off this July and conclude in October.
“Man I am super excited!” Allen told CMT about his summer tour. “We got the offer to go out with Brad, and I was like, ‘Yes! Let’s make it happen! Whatever we gotta do to make it happen!’ It’s cool because we get to sing [‘Freedom Was a Highway’] together every night.”
Allen and Paisley have been friends and recently collaborated on the song “Freedom Was a Highway” off of Allen’s 2020 EP, Bettie James. Paisley recently surprised his collaborator during the 2021 ACM Awards where they did an impromptu live version of the song together.
