Last night, as we collectively kissed 2020 goodbye, Keith Urban joined us to close out the year together. From his driveway in Nashville, Urban recorded a Facebook Live video as the last edition of “Urban Underground” in 2020. The performance was very stripped down with just Urban and his guitar. He sang a couple of songs and thanked his fans for getting him through the year.
“Hi, I wish I could see everyone,” Keith said from his driveway. “This was just a very simple thing I wanted to do with just me and my guitar singing into my iPhone. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone watching and especially everyone in the ‘ville, thank you to everyone who supported me this year. Really simple, just me, my guitar, and my heartfelt thanks.”
Today, he posted a video to Twitter that showed an extra performance from his last “Urban Underground” last night. In the video, he played his song, “Polaroid,” for his fans. In it, his guitar and voice were plenty to ring in the new year.
“Happy New Year to everyone,” Keith Urban said in the post. “Here’s an extra performance from the URBAN UNDERGROUND. Enjoy ‘Polaroid’ !”
Urban Underground by Keith Urban
Since March when quarantine began, Keith Urban would perform short videos of cover songs and original songs for his fans. He typically filmed them from that same spot in his Nashville driveway.
Often times, his beautiful wife Nicole Kidman would join him to sing or dance by his side. The couple made an outstanding visual and vocal pair for the performances.
Last night’s performance marked the last edition of Urban Underground in the year 2020. If quarantine should continue deep into the new year, Keith Urban will likely continue his home live shows. Ideally, he will find a way to have live concerts again soon, but for now, Urban Underground will have to do.
