Kelly Clarkson and Brett Eldredge are finding love under the mistletoe. The two performers brought a little holiday cheer with their newest Christmas duet. “Under the Mistletoe” dropped on Wednesday (Oct. 28).
The song combines Clarkson’s powerful vocals with Eldredge’s own baritone for a message of love and happiness. During the song, the artists sing of wanting “to be wrapped up in each other’s arms” under the mistletoe.
Kelly Clarkson Teased The Duet with Brett Eldredge
Clarkson first teased the collaboration on the podcast the Sunday Today With Willie Geist. The singer said she had a duet planned with Eldredge as well as an unannounced cover of a holiday classic.
“I actually have a couple of Christmas things dropping too, that were very random,” she said. “A duet with Brett Eldredge, who I love, that I wrote, and a cover song. So it’s like an A/B side thing that’s coming out for Christmas.”
In 2013, Clarkson released a full-length Christmas album called Wrapped In Red, which debuted at No. 3 on the charts. Clarkson hopes the new song will cheer up fans who are going through a rough time related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Fans are always asking, ‘can you just drop anything?’ Everyone is sad. Everyone is feeling it,” she said. “The world has gone to crap, can you just release something?”
Clarkson found a perfect partner in Eldredge who loves Christmas and the Holiday season. Last December, he went on a multi-city tour for his own Christmas album called Glow. While he didn’t get to tour again this year, Eldredge found a way to embrace his passion for the holiday season.
“I always just wanted to make a really special record and see whatever [would] happen with it, and then, it all of a sudden went crazy,” Eldredge told The Country Daily. “People went crazy for it, so I was like, ‘Okay, we’ve got a whole other thing here I can do every Christmas.’ I love Christmas music so much, so I [started] a tour this year for it in Chicago, New York, Ontario and Nashville, so next year, I’ll probably do an even bigger one. It’s just a new thing for me and I love it.”
