Oh, yes. Clarkson’s latest interview with the country star reveals that Blake Shelton was a beauty pageant star as a child. Can’t make this stuff up!

On this Monday’s edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson hits Blake Shelton fans with a bombshell. The fantastic revelation comes as she asks Shelton to relive his first-ever performances.

In a preview of the show via ET Canada, Shelton reveals it was all his mother’s fault. “My mother would enter me into pageants. Yes… those kinda’ pageants.” She did it “so I could sing in the talent portion. But then you would also have to do the evening wear…” Shelton smirks.

Clarkson, however, knew this all along. “I knew you were gonna answer with this,” she laughs. “And I just want to hear you talk about pageants.”

“You’re such an a**hole,” Shelton replies with a smile. The two The Voice coaches have excellent chemistry on and off the show, it seems.

Shelton, too, is a great sport. As he looks back, he recalls his pageant “specialties”. Which were, of course, a few classic songs. “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Segar, was the first. The second? Ted Nugent’s non-child-friendly “Cat Scratch Fever”.

That one, Shelton admits, “didn’t go over very well with the soccer moms in the audience.

The preview is well worth the watch for fans of the two stars. Especially Shelton fans, as his mother was kind enough to supply a few vintage photos of Blake in said “evening wear”.

The avid outdoorsman and country legend has come a long way since. And grown quite a bit of facial hair since those days, too:

Blake Shelton also notes his excitement for the upcoming season of The Voice, which premieres tonight. His wife, Gwen Stefani, is back in on the fun for 2020. The show is now on a staggering Season 19, and shows no signs of slowing down.
