Kelly Clarkson threw it back to ’80s country with a cover of Reba McEntire’s “How Blue” during her “Kellyoke” segment on her hit talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”

Clarkson blew us away with her country chops throughout her performance, which we know would get the stamp of approval from the “Fancy” singer herself. Written by John Moffat, McEntire recorded “How Blue” for her 1984 album, My Kind of Country. The song later became her third No. 1 single.

Yet, for Clarkson, this segment of Kellyoke was significant. “The Voice” coach and McEntire have been longtime friends — and were even family at one point when Clarkson was married to Brandon Blackstock, the son of McEntire’s ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock. McEntire and Narvel divorced in 2015. Later, Clarkson and Blackstock followed suit in 2020 but have yet to finalize their divorce.

Clarkson’s performance of “How Blue” is just one of many country songs she’s tackled. In addition, she’s covered Billy Currington’s “Let Me Down Easy,” Faith Hill’s “It Matters To Me,” Pam Tillis’ “Maybe It Was Memphis,” Wynonna’s “No One Else On Earth,” and Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California.”

Previous “Kellyoke” segments have also featured songs by Blake Shelton, Martina McBride, Johnny Cash, Lady A, Rascal Flatts, Travis Tritt, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Kelsea Ballerini. Moreover, she’s covered a plethora of superstar of artists like Demi Lovato, Chris Stapleton, Jason Aldean, Kenny Rogers, The Beach Boys, and many more.

Kelly Clarkson Rocks Out With Aerosmith Classic

On Monday. she performed Aerosmith’s “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” during the “Kellyoke” portion. Backed by flashing red and white lights, the “American Idol” winner was, dressed in a skirt and blouse — with a tie undone around her neck.

Vocally, she hit the song out of the park. Like always, she stunned viewers with her powerhouse of a voice in the chorus, especially as the song drew to a close and she repeated the track’s title in such a way that would make Steven Tyler himself applaud her.

Online, Clarkson’s cover left her fans breathless. “Wow! Who else had their wig flying after this performance?” wrote one fan. “She should totally do more rock songs!!!!” someone else wrote.

“Kelly is the Best! Her Rocker spirit is amazing. She’s just the best vocalist ever,” another person commented.

Clarkson and Aerosmith has been a winning combination. She covered the band’s song “Cryin'” last October and “Dream On” as well.
