“But what if I, what if I trip? / What if I, what if I fall? / Then am I the monster? /Just let me know.” Kelsea Ballerini recently posted on her Instagram a cover of her performing a cover of “Monster,” a song off Shawn Mendes’ new album.

Fans’ reactions seem to suggest you might just be a monster if you didn’t fall for the peaceful cover.

Fans Love the Ballerini Version

Commenters said anything from a row of heart-eye emojis to saying things like “so so talented” or “so sweet.”

In the post she wrote, “very inspired by the new @shawnmendes record, and loved this one immediately.”

The country artist is singing outside on a swinging bench on a porch with only her voice and her acoustic guitar. Her cover is a more calm, soft version of the pop singer’s duet with Justin Bieber in the chart-topping single.

Ballerini is known for her ability to connect with multiple genres. A part of her popularity is due to her status as more of a pop-country artist.

A Queen of Collabs

The artist has said in the past to Entertainment Weekly that “I never want to do a collaboration on one of my projects unless it’s someone that I really love and admire.”

Beyond just her husband, Morgan Evans, who she clearly must love and admire, she has also had several other artists on her records. Most of them have actually fallen under the category of pop music, as well.

By collaborating with artists in the pop genre, not only is she reaching more fans, but it also creates a cohesive and unique country-pop sound that continues to work so well for individual and group artists.

Ballerini has teamed up with The Chainsmokers, Halsey, and Ed Sheeran.

Ballerini and Sheeran co-wrote the song “Love and Hate,” a powerful ballad on her album “kelsea.”

The singer and pop-sensation Halsey performed a duet with the song “The Other Girl.” Ballerini wrote the song and Halsey, despite her songwriting abilities, liked it enough to not change any of the lyrics. This powerful song exemplifies the duo’s similar issues with relationships, yet tough resilience getting through it. This song also appears on “kelsea.”

Then, Ballerini also appears on the song “This Feeling” with The Chainsmokers. The artist has also performed with Shania Twain in a remix of her song “Hole in a Bottle” and with Kenny Chesney on her song “Half of my Hometown.”

She clearly loves Mendes’ new album and is “inspired” by it. Could that mean the possibility of a future collaboration?
