During the 2012 Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show, Kenny Chesney brought a fan up on stage to sing with him. Chesney performs “I Go Back” for the special show.
While the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Washington Redskins in a shootout game, fans were enthralled by the performance. At halftime, the Cowboys trailed 28-3.
Chesney performed the song at AT&T Stadium.
During the song, Chesney motions to a girl in the crowd to hop up on stage. As he continues to sing, she eagerly jumps up and runs over to him. She quickly wraps her arm around him.
Chesney Halftime Show
Chesney does the same to her as he sings the chorus. He laughs as the girl he pulled up tries to sing along with him. Nonetheless, he keeps on performing with his arm over her shoulder.
The song is extra appropriate for the occasion. Chesney performs at midfield with a girl by his side, and consequently, the lyrics to the song match up perfectly.
“To the feel of a fifty-yard line / A blanket, a girl, some raspberry wine / I go back (I go back) / To watchin’ summer fade to fall / Growin’ up too fast and I do recall / I go back (I go back) / To the loss of a real good friend / And the sixteen summers I shared with him / I go back, I go back, I go back.”
Certainly, in Texas, summer has ended by the time Thanksgiving rolls around. So, it is only fitting that Chesney sings “I Go Back” for the lively crowd.
The Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day football tradition dates all the way back to 1996. And some notable country artists have performed during halftime at those games.
This year, Ellie Goulding is set to perform at center field. However, Carrie Underwood, Sheryl Crow, and Keith Urban have all graced the stage at AT&T stadium for some memorable shows.
