Miranda Lambert recently swooned viewers when she performed her song, “Settling Down” on “The Bobby Bones Show Annual St. Jude Radiothon.”

Miranda Lambert’s Story Behind “Settling Down”

Performing virtually from her Nashville home, “Settling Down” is the third single off Lambert’s seventh studio album, Wildcard. Lambert dropped the song on Sept 1, 2020. She performed the song live at the 54th Annual Country Music Association Awards.

On Oct 3 of this year, the track debuted at No. 45 on the “Billboard Country Airplay” chart. “Settling Down” also came in at No. 49 on the “Billboard Hot Country Songs” chart on Oct 17.

The Grammy-nominated artist co-wrote the song with Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby. Hemby and Dick also penned her last single, “Bluebird,” and Jay Joyce produced it. Lambert developed the song’s idea in response to a conversation she shared with her tour bus driver about her relationship with Brendan McLoughlin. Beginning with the hook, (“am I settling up or settling down?”) Lambert collaborated with the other writers to bring it to life.

Together, they created a paradoxical song that highlights an artist who longs to settle down with a loved one while not wanting to let go of a whirlwind life on tour, a direct representation of the relationship lambert shared with McLoughlin.

Trey Fanjoy directed the music video for “Settling Down” and premiered on Oct 21, 2020. The video was shot on location at Lambert’s farm outside of Nashville. It also features Brendan McLoughlin, marking the first time Lambert has had a love interest in her music videos.

“I’m like, ‘You’re cute, you’re here, and you’re free.’ It was fun; he did such a great job… and our little dog is in it, and our ponies,” Lambert said in an interview about the video. “It’s at my magical-happy place an hour away from Nashville.”
