WATCH: Miranda Lambert Tears Up Performing ‘The House That Built Me’ During Texas Concert Series

It’s undeniable that Miranda Lambert can bring down the house with her powerhouse ballads, yet she can also show an emotional side with just a few notes. That’s exactly what she did when she took the stage during a concert at the iconic Billy Bob’s Texas, located in Ft. Worth.

During her concert, she performed a soulful rendition of “The House That Built Me,” which brought the Texas native to tears.

On Thursday, Lambert took the stage for her first live, in-person concert since her 2020 Wildcard Tour. While there’s no doubt she’s performed the song countless times, this time was different. It could’ve been the fact that she was performing live for the first time in over a year or the song’s emotional lyrics. Either way, she was overcome with emotion during the rendition — so much so that she broke down in tears.

The song — a nostalgic look at her childhood — will leave anyone in tears. The message is overwhelmingly relatable as we’ve all longed for the past at some point during our life.  After its release in 2009, it quickly became Lambert’s fastest-rising single. As the third single off her third studio album, Revolution, the song gave her her first No. 1 on the Billboard “Hot Country” charts.

The song’s success could be attributed to the fact that it stemmed from Miranda Lambert’s real hardship. As a child, Lambert and her family became homeless at one point. As a result, they had to move in with family and friends until they found a house that they could afford. They all lived in one room while slowly fixing the home up.

“Momma cut out pictures of houses for years
From better homes and garden magazine
Plans were drawn and concrete poured
And nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to momma’s dream”

Recently, Miranda Lambert joined Kid Rock and Sam Williams, and Hank Williams Jr., for a more light-hearted performance. The four singers came together and absolutely crushed a rendition of Hank Jr.’s “Family Tradition.” Thanks to a video from one lucky attendee, the performance was nothing short of rowdy. The legends had a ball, trading verses during the rendition, while an amazed crowd took it all in.

Lambert’s mini-concert residency at Billy Bob’s Texas continues this weekend as the singer will perform on Saturday, April 24, and then return for the first weekend in May.
