Country star Reba McEntire is just kidding around in a new birthday message to Dolly Parton for her 75th birthday.

Reba McEntire Celebrates Dolly Parton’s Birthday

“Hey Dolly, happy birthday!” McEntire says in the video message. “Forty-nine, are you serious?!”

“I love you with all my heart, have a great day and I hope you get to do exactly what you want to do – which I know you’ll probably work because you always do,” McEntire adds. “I love ya!”

McEntire and Parton have been friends for over 40 years. And Parton recently appeared on McEntire’s podcast, “Living and Learning With Reba McEntire.”

Parton is a famously hard worker. In addition to being a prolific songwriter and a talented singer, she is an actress and businesswoman, as well.

Parton is also known for getting up at 3 a.m. to start her workday before most people are even awake.

“I just love the wee hours,” she told the Today Show. “I’m usually up by 3 o’clock. I go to bed early, but I’m just an early bird.”

Parton explained that she uses that time to deal with mail and make some calls. She also meditates and does “spiritual work.”

“I get more work done between 3 and 7 than most people all day, because it’s quiet and the energy’s all low-key, except mine,” Parton said.

“We’re all getting up early in the morning, getting that cup of ambition,” she added, quoting her song “9 to 5.” “Hitting the streets and getting started… and here we are.”

A Little Birthday Kindness

For her 75th birthday, Parton wrote on her website that she has a special birthday wish. She wants all her fans to find some act of kindness they can participate in today.

“If you want to donate to your favorite cause, then donate,” Parton wrote. “Or if you want to give an old friend a call during these lonely times, give them a call. If you can safely volunteer, then raise your hand to do so. If you decide that today is the day you get a dog, then run down to the shelter and find your new buddy. The choices are limitless.”

She concluded by saying that hurt and fear often overpower love in today’s world. “We have to work to dig it out so we can share it with our family, our friends and our neighbors,” she said.

Parton clearly enjoys being loving and kind, so it shouldn’t be too hard for her to find an act of kindness that’s fun for her on her birthday. Whether it’s her 49th or 75th one.
