Ahead of Veteran’s Day, Toby Keith is thanking a Vietnam veteran for his service in the military. The country singer sent the veteran a personal message via TikTok after his grandson reached out.

The veteran, named Butch, experienced a fall on his motorcycle last year and has been recovering. His grandson, Jonathan Dump, reached out to Keith on his behalf. He said a personal message would make his grandfather’s year.

“Hey Butch, Toby Keith here,” Keith said in the TikTok video. “I hope your recovery from your motorcycle accident goes swiftly. And hope you’re doing good, man. Thanks for your service. God speed, warrior. Let’s go.”

Jonathan later showed his grandfather the message Keith had sent him. The veteran seemed to think Keith was video-chatting with him instead. But he expressed immense gratitude and joy.

Butch said, “Hey man. How are you doing sir? Thank you I hope you’re doing well too.”

The Veteran’s Grandson Reached out to Toby Keith

In a TikTok video, Johnathan detailed how much his grandfather loved Keith and his music. He said his grandfather has also battled cancer during his life in addition to being a veteran. He asked if the country singer would send a personal message to his grandfather to cheer him up after the motorcycle crash.

“This man right here, Mr. Toby Keith. I just want to ask one favor,” Jonathan said. “It might be far fetched. Might not be. My grandpa has had a rough year. Last September, he went down on his motorcycle. He had to recover. It was just shy of his 10-year celebration from being cancer-free. He battled and ultimately won. Not only that. He proudly served in Vietnam. He’s a combat vet.”

In the TikTok video, Jonathan shared photos of his grandfather both in uniform and after he beat cancer via chemotherapy treatments.

##stitch with @tobykeithofficial idk if you do these kinds of things, but I’ll even record his blind reaction if you do 🤷🏼‍♂️

“Toby, my grandpa loves your music,” Jonathan continued. “And he’s also my hero for more reasons than just being my grandpa. His name is Butch. I don’t know if you do this or not. But he’s a big fan of yours. I mean a really big fan of yours. He’s even seen you in concert a few times. I don’t know if it is too much to ask. But I think it would make his day if you just made a video saying hi. But I know he would love it.”
