Willie Nelson Announces Virtual Cannabis Convention

Country music icon Willie Nelson is well-known for his marijuana use and advocacy. He’s taking that one step further later this month with the creation of a virtual cannabis convention.

In a statement, the country singer and others involved with the convention announced the inaugural cannabis event. Nelson partnered with Luck Presents for the new event. The company is responsible for the singer’s popular Luck Reunion festival as well. They announced that the inaugural convention is called Luck Summit: Planting the Seed. Additionally, it’s scheduled to begin on April 26, and will run through Nelson’s 88th birthday on April 29.

According to an Austin 360 article, the four-day virtual event is hoping “to destigmatize, educate and promote cannabis culture in an informative and entertaining way.”

“I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower,” Willie Nelson explained in a statement. “God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?”

Further Details on Willie Nelson’s Upcoming Cannabis Convention

While Willie Nelson will be the de facto face of the event, another fellow musician will host the inaugural convention. The news release announced singer-songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff as Luck Summit: Planting the Seed’s first host.

With Rateliff at the helm, the convention aims to explore cannabis in both historical and scientific contexts. In addition, the virtual event will look at its influence on culture and entertainment. Along with panel discussions and keynote speakers, Willie Nelson’s event will appropriately include musical collaborations as well. Furthermore, it will have “comedy sketches, cooking demonstrations, health-focused activities and more.”

Instead of virtual tickets or passes, admissions for Luck Summit: Planting the Seed will be based on donations. To take part in the event, cannabis enthusiasts must make a $10 to $500 donation to HeadCount’s Cannabis Voter Project. The organization focuses on cannabis through political policies. They also help voters register. There are five price points available for interested attendees. They include, Curious ($10), Advocate ($25), Activist ($50), Patron ($100), and Leader ($500).

“Texas and the rest of the United States are sitting at a cannabis crossroads right now,” Headcount director Sam D’Arcangelo stated in the news release. “There’s no better time to celebrate how far we’ve come and have a conversation about where cannabis legalization goes from here.”

Back in 2015, marijuana legalization expanded across the country. As a longtime proponent of the plant, Willie Nelson created his own recreational brand named Willie’s Reserve. Next, the country musician created a CBD-based product brand, Willie’s Remedy. His newest venture into the cannabis industry with this virtual convention indeed seems like a natural addition to his marijuana-based brands.
