Today is country outlaw Willie Nelson’s 88th birthday.

Similar to past years, Nelson is celebrating his birthday with the help of his family and some good music.

Or, in this case, his family is attempting to cohesively sing him happy birthday. Willie’s Roadhouse’s Twitter account shared a video of Willie Nelson’s six kids singing their father happy birthday. Paula, Amy, Lukas, Micah, Lana, and Susie are all appearing in the video.

Instead of getting all the way through the song, they spend most of the time tinkering around with what tune they should perform the song in. Furthermore, the country singer has long had elaborate celebrations in honor of his birthday every year.

This entire weekend, Sirius XM radio is having a four-day birthday celebration for the country artist. He has his own exclusive channel on Sirius XM as well. Moreover, the event will feature exclusive programming with Nelson and his family.

Willie Nelson Birthday Wishes

Other figures have been wishing Nelson a happy birthday on social media as well. Keith Richards wrote, “Happy Birthday, Willie, and many more. See you round the bend!” He shared an image of them together at the Merle Haggard tribute concert.

Jay Zawaski, a popular podcaster, wrote, “Happy 88th Birthday, @WillieNelson. My love of music started when I heard, “Mama, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys” at Showbiz Pizza as a kid. My parents bought me Willie’s greatest hits record, & the rest is history. I guess you could say he’s always been my favorite.”

Also, a 90-year-old iconic woman from Texas shared tips to a long and healthy life with Texas Monthly. As a matter of fact, she happened to have something specific to say to Willie Nelson.

“The only thing I could say to Willie Nelson is to do what he’s happy doing. If you’re unhappy with your profession, it’s just not going to work. You’re going to be a miserable person to be around, and you’re going to be miserable to yourself. If he’s happy doing what he’s doing, he needs to continue. And have friends and family supporting him. That’s what I’d say to anyone, not just Willie. Anyway, I hope he has a very happy eighty-eighth birthday—and that he has many more,” Carlene said.

Nelson’s Luck Summit

Besides being a country music icon, Willie Nelson has been a longtime activist for marijuana as well as biofuels.

According to Taste of Country, Nelson launched the “Luck Summit: Planting the Seed” summit. It is an educational experience for people to “destigmatize, educate, and promote cannabis culture in an informative and entertaining way.”

The event took place from April 26 to April 29 virtually. It was hosted by Nathaniel Rateliff. It features cooking seminars, performances, and comedy sketches. The show also aligns with different activities centered around issues like social justice, science, and sustainability.

Willie Nelson likes to think of the period between April 20 (4/20), the annual marijuana holiday, and his birthday, April 29, as the “High Holidays.” What’s more, he asked for President Joe Biden to make it an official national holiday in a letter.
