NASCAR: Twitter Is Still Torn Over Mike Wallace’s Suspension Weeks Later

NASCAR suspended Mike Wallace over a Facebook post earlier this month and social media still hasn’t moved on. Thousands on Twitter weighed in with their thoughts on whether they think the driver deserved the suspension.

According to NASCAR, the Wallace, 61, violated the league’s social media policy. The rules prohibit any “public statement and/or communication that criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.”

Only an hour before Wallace received the suspension, he took to Facebook to post about politics.

“You know as I fly across the United States today I’m ready various people’s political views and I have to say a famous four star Military General that I spent time with in the MidEast told me Mike let me give you some advice don’t ever get in a conversation about politics or religion unless you are really smart,” he wrote. “I said why do you say that comment His response it’s like being balanced on a single edge razor blade if you slip you will get cut!”

Wallace continued by writing: “Think about that before we all make foolish uneducated post! Moral of this story is most of use just repeat what we have heard we really don’t know. Have a great positive day!”

Twitter Users Slam NASCAR

After the news surfaced that Wallace received an indefinite suspension, many on Twitter at the time called out NASCAR for enacting what they feel is hypocritical behavior. Fast forward to Sep. 22 and a number of Twitter users still call for NASCAR to answers for the suspension.

Several users drew attention to NASCAR driver Darrell Wallace, who many on Twitter also think violated the league’s social media policies. However, Darrell received no such punishment.

“I guess Mike Wallace was correct with this assumption that NASCAR looks the other way when it involves Darrell Wallace,” one user writes.

Another user sharing a similar opinion chimed in writing: “#NASCAR made a huge mistake when they #suspended Mike Wallace. They are being very #racist and making it all about #politics. Darrell Wallace Jr has posted stuff that fits in the same category that Mike was suspended for. Darrell should be suspended also.”

In addition to several users calling out Darrell Wallace, many pointed out how Bubba Wallace also previously made comments regarding politics in recent months. After the suspension, Mike Wallace also pointed out how he feels that NASCAR treated him differently than Bubba.
