One of the stars from the hit CBS series ‘NCIS‘ revealed how much the cast members work on an average day.

Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee on the show, told StarryMag in 2020 that an average of filming is about 12 hours long. This has helped the cast be “in this great space where we are able to play inside of a world that we’ve already established.”

Murray says the days aren’t as brutal as they used to be as well. Each of the actors knows their characters “very well,” he added. And that comes in handy when they are filming episodes with especially intense storylines.

“The first few years of a show (definitely with us and especially with most shows) you are kind of figuring out what you are and what works and what doesn’t,” Murray told the entertainment news website. “So, it’s slow in the beginning in terms of figuring out what you’ve got, what you are, what is working and what you’ve got to twist.

Last Season of NCIS Ended Well for McGee

The last season of NCIS ended with Emily Wickersham’s announcement that she is leaving the show. As Ellie Bishop, her character deliberately revealed herself as the leaker who put an NSA contractor in danger. This causes Bishop to flee. She caps off by telling Agent Torres that she will be “going away for a long time.”

Without Bishop on the show, Murray told StarryMag that his character will have some room to grow. He added that “there is a lot of fun stuff happening with McGee that we’ve done already that I’m privy to. It’s going to be interesting.”

The next season will also dive deeper into McGee’s relationship with the group’s leader, Agent Gibbs. Murray said McGee and Gibbs have a mentor/mentee relationship now that he’s a senior agent.

“The relationship between them…Part of Gibbs is letting McGee know just how good he is at what he does and how much faith Gibbs has in him and how their relationship work wise and personal wise – to a degree – has changed over the years,” Murray said. “I just think it’s a natural evolution where it is headed.”

Historic Milestone During Season 19

NCIS will hit a historic milestone during the next season when it films its 400th episode. The show has the third-highest episode count of currently running TV programs. Only ‘The Simpsons” and “Law & Order: SVU” have filmed more episodes.

Murray said NCIS has been “a powerful thing that has gone on for almost two decades.”

“The fact that we have completed or continuing to surpass the four hundredth hour of one-hour television is like being part of the mile-high club,” he said “You can count on one hand the number of shows that have done that. I’m not sure. I’ve never really looked into it. But I know we’ve done well!”
