After spending 18 years in CBS’s Tuesday night timeslot, NCIS is making a move to Mondays at 9/8c, starting Sept. 20. During an interview with TVLine, CBS said they moved the popular crime drama to help their Monday night lineup.

NCIS will help us start each week with The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, and the new NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Hawai’i.

“We hope to improve the [Monday] time period significantly,” said CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl. “And we hope that it can be a strong lead-in to help launch NCIS: Hawai’i.”

The series had a strong year averaging 12.6 million viewers and a 1.2 rating during its 18th season. Though, the crime drama will have some tough competition during season 19. The series will be running alongside Monday Night Football and Dancing with the Stars. The latter is historically one of TV’s most popular shows. So, CBS is aware that the competition may oust NCIS as television’s most-watched drama.

When asked if she’s worried about a drop in ratings, Kahl said, “Well, we haven’t lost it yet. So we’ll hang onto it as long as we can. I will say that fans of that show are a diehard bunch,” she continued. “So I don’t foresee losing a lot of them with the time period change.”

One Plot Line That NCIS Fans Are Tired of

NCIS is one of television’s leading dramas, and it has been for nearly two decades. The series is so popular that it has given birth to three spin-offs. And all of them are or were as wildly popular as the original.

But while fans continue to religiously watch the team solve major crimes in Washington D.C., some wish the writers would drop one recurring aspect of the show—the flashbacks.

On Reddit, one user created a thread entitled “Enough With The Flashbacks!!!!! (Rant),” which was perfectly poignant. The Redditor had invested a lot of time on the show and had made it past the halfway mark. But they really needed to vent about how played out the flashback sequences had become.

“I have invested 11 seasons this far and am about sick of every episode based on history or having flashbacks!! When do we just get a crime, an investigation, and a [solution] already!!!! Once or twice is fine, but almost every darn episode now!! Does it ever stop??” they asked.

Lucky for them, the NCIS makes a change in the later seasons. And another fan let the original poster know that the suffering would soon end.

“I have mostly watched recent seasons and I can think of one episode that was mainly flashbacks. I have seen some that flashback to a scene or two. To me, it isn’t bad and helps you recall things. I mean even shows like Friends have retrospective episodes,” the other fan wrote.
