NCIS is undergoing a major cast shakeup with Gary Cole and Katrina Law joining the series for season 19. Katrina Law will play special agent Jessica Knight, who fans already saw briefly in season 18, Gary Cole’s character, Special Agent Holden Park, has been kept pretty under wraps. This has led some fans to speculate about him being a villain.
A new fan-made theory suggests that Special Agent Park is poised to take Gibb’s job. However, the fact that he’s some sort of villain will force Gibbs out of retirement. Some even theorize that Cole could be the serial killer Gibbs was trying to hunt down last season with Investigative Journalist Marcie Warren.
According to Express, one fan took to Reddit with the theory.
“Cole is gonna be the serial killer,” the fan claimed. They also said that Cole is “Too big of a name to not be either the killer or maybe some legendary NCIS Agent.”
It’s true that Cole is a huge name. He’s been in productions such as The Good Wife, Office Space, and Talladega Nights. While the fan theory is just that- a theory, it would be an epic plot twist for sure. But it’s unlikely Gibbs would truly return from Retirement.
Gary Cole and Katrina Law Joining ‘NCIS’ After Two Major Actors Step Away from the Show
Katrina Law and Gary Cole are joining the series after the departure of Emily Wickersham and the significant stepping away from mark Harmon. Emily Wickersham’s Agent Bishop is no longer on the series. Meanwhile, production scheduled Mark Harmon’s Agent Gibbs to appear in a handful of episodes.
According to a shocking report by The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon allegedly wanted to step away from the series altogether, but CBS higher-ups told him that if he left the show, it would be canceled. This reportedly prompted Harmon, whose been playing Gibbs for over 20 years (first on JAG) to agree to come on season 19 for a smaller amount of episodes.
Meanwhile, Agent Bishop actress Emily Wickersham formally left the series behind. While she didn’t give an exact reason, she made it clear on her Instagram that she was grateful for the time she had spent on NCIS.
“This business is finicky and weird and consistency is a rarity. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a show where I got to show up and act and laugh and learn with wonderful people. A moment in time I surely won’t forget. Thank you CBS and NCIS for including me in a part of television history,” the actress wrote.
But the show must go on, and NCIS is trudging forward despite these losses. The series returns for its 19th season on Monday, September 20th.
