“NCIS” star David McCallum has had a long career in acting. He only stepped down from his lead role as the show’s chief medical examiner a couple of seasons ago. It makes sense then that the 87-year-old actor has witnessed a lot of transformations in film over the decades. However, in a 2013 interview, McCallum revealed that filming modern shows like “NCIS” is no different than filming others such as his earlier role in “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”

However, in McCallum fashion, the actor relays the real truth about acting and film development. During an interview with Media Mikes, McCallum was asked, “What, in your opinion, is the biggest difference in working in television between “The Man from U.N.C.L.E” and shows such as “NCIS”?

“I think the ability to record sound and the size of the camera and the fact that it’s now digital and not film,” McCallum replied. “Other than that nothing’s changed.”

And while that might seem strange, in it way, it makes sense. Actors and actresses still struggle with making a name for themselves. The technical issues are just a little easier and faster to solve now.

Will David McCallum Return to ‘NCIS’ in Season 19?

David McCallum is one of the “NCIS” original cast members. He played the ever-important role of Chief Medical Examiner until season 16. At that point, his character Dr. “Ducky” Mallard passed the baton to now Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jimmy Palmer.

As of now, “Ducky,” plays the role of historian in the CBS hit series. Hopefully, McCallum will be able to do so in greater capacity throughout the latest season.

Mark Harmon Will Appear On the Hit Show In a Reduced Capacity for Season 19

McCallum’s leave from “NCIS” is no doubt logical following the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. However, Outsider is still spiraling at the news that the face of the hit show himself, Gibbs actor Mark Harmon, plans to leave as well.

It’s questionable whether or not “NCIS” could even carry on without its leading man, however, fans have been speculating in recent months possible solutions to the problem. Fan worry began following the explosion on Gibbs’ boat during the season 18 finale before the character was seen swimming away from the debris.

Additionally, fans are concerned due to both Harmon’s and McCallum’s reduced appearances on the show. It’s possible the famed pair won’t ever appear on “NCIS” together again. After all, the first three “NCIS” characters audiences were introduced to way back on “Yankee White” were Tony Dinozzo alongside Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Not long later, “Ducky” makes his very first appearance during the very first airing of the show.

Only the new season premiere will tell us anything.
