The “NCIS” universe has come under some fire recently. The most recent season has been plagued with wavering viewership numbers, botched transitions, and upsetting character exits. A past member of the “NCIS: New Orleans” spinoff also just came out with an impromptu expose about a potentially toxic work environment. It seems that the only thing the fans want right now is a return to normalcy and a return to the show’s roots.
And what’s that thing they say about life imitating art sometimes? Well, nevermind. This is more of a case that has to do with art imitating art anyways. You can’t get anything past the die-hard “NCIS” fans these days. Perhaps it’s not exactly the return to the show’s roots that they wanted, but a hoard of eagle-eyed viewers think they just spotted a recycled storyline in one of the more recent episodes.
Redditors Discuss How Two ‘NCIS’ Characters Are Linked Now
Reddit is a site where you can fall down practically any rabbit hole you want to. It probably even has some rabbit holes that you don’t want to fall down. But one thing’s for sure and that’s the fact that fans like sleuthing when it comes to their favorite TV shows. One Redditor, for example, just pointed out how the show’s Nicholas Torres and Timothy McGee might be connected. It’s got everything to do with cars.
If you’re all caught up with the show, you know about Nicholas Torres’ car accident. At the surface, it doesn’t seem like all that big of a deal. A pizza delivery driver crashed into him, so what?
When you begin to jog your memory, though, you might remember a similar plotline with Timothy McGee. Now, both characters have crashed a beloved first car. One fan’s comment on the thread pretty much summed up the group’s thoughts:
“What would have been good (had they realized that they accidentally recycled a plot before they wrapped) is if McGee would have said, ‘I know how you feel, Nick – I had a similar thing with my first car’.
I often wonder if there’s someone on staff who is responsible for continuity.”
A Different Debate About the Show’s Writers
Earlier this year, Reddit saw another debate regarding choices by the “NCIS” writers, but this one got a little heated. The thread is titled “‘NCIS’ writers cannot write an interesting 3-dimensional woman so save the life of them.” Several fans alleged that the original “NCIS” series struggled to write strong female leads that didn’t always end up as a love interest. They cite Ziva who ended up with Tony and Bishop who ends up divorced as examples. However, the fans also seemed to agree that the spinoffs showed progress in this area.
