Gibbs left “NCIS” in episode 4 of season 19, and fans have been hoping for his return ever since. While it seemed like Mark Harmon was stepping away from the camera for good, a few eagle-eyed fans have noticed something that may be a clue as to his return.

“I don’t think Gibbs is entirely out of NCIS UNTIL they change the intro. They’ve added the new employees, but they haven’t yet removed Mark,” said one fan on Twitter. Other fans commented on the thread, giving their opinions.

“Mark Harmon will come back for an ep later this season, I bet,” another fan speculated. “He’s still doing the ‘Stay tuned’ in the opening credits. He’s also left and returned several times.”

So, Mark Harmon still features heavily in the “NCIS” intro; is that a clue that he could come back eventually? “So why is Gibbs still in the NCIS intro?” one fan mused. “Is he coming back, or are they simply too lazy to make a fresh intro?”

Showrunner Steven D. Binder has told fans not to lose hope about Gibbs coming back. “Regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the program may have seen over the years, never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out,” Binder has said.

So, the door is still open for Gibbs to come back. It definitely feels like, if they change the intro, that’s the end of Mark Harmon on “NCIS”. But, at the same time, if he does come back, they could just insert his credit as a special guest star, since it’s doubtful he’d come back for more than two episodes, tops. Is Harmon’s name in the “NCIS” credits a clue, or just a tribute to an actor who spent so much time on the show? Only the showrunners know that.

‘NCIS’: The Team Interviews a Hologram in Next Episode

This next “NCIS” episode is shaping up to be a weird one; the team is going to interrogate a hologram of a dead woman to try and figure out her big secrets. The woman’s daughter tells the team her mother did something “unforgivable.” The squad has to talk to the hologram to find out what that was.

We don’t know this woman’s background yet, or why she has a hologram of herself. But, the writers surely had their work cut out for them trying to make this one work. A hologram isn’t artificial intelligence; it’s light beams hitting a physical object. Pre-recorded stuff. So, the hologram can only answer what was preprogrammed into it. This could potentially do more harm than good.

We’ll have to wait for next Monday’s episode to find out what the team gets from the hologram, if anything.
