Some NCIS fans are theorizing that Ziva David will return to the show for season 19. The fan-favorite character, played by Cote de Pablo, has only appeared once in recent years. She’s one of many members of the original main cast that essentially left the show. Everyone on NCIS thought Ziva was dead after season 11, but she returned in season 16.
Fans hope that David will return, as her last appearance on the series saw her life very much stable. She returned to Paris to see her family. But why, exactly do fans think that she’ll come back?
When Ziva returned, she told Gibbs she felt like her NCIS co-workers left her behind as they didn’t properly investigate her “death.” She said if the roles were reversed, and Gibbs was either missing or presumed dead, that she would absolutely be there to investigate.
The thing is, after the season 18 finale, Gibbs really might be presumed dead. The finale saw the boat Gibbs was on while investigating a serial killer explode. The final shot hovered over Gibb’s “body” before showing that he was, in fact, alive as he sneakily swam away.
It’s likely Gibbs may have faked his own death. If not, he may be presumed dead while on the run. If that’s the case, fans think Ziva may stick to her word.
‘NCIS’ Has Experienced Some Big Cast Shakeups
Not to mention, it would make sense to get Cote de Pablo back for an episode or two, because fans will likely want a familiar face. Mark Harmon, who plays Gibbs, will officially take a backseat for season 19, acting in a very reduced role. It was rumored that Harmon didn’t want to return at all, but was told by CBS execs that the show would be canceled without him.
Harmon is reportedly set to star in a very limited amount of episodes now. Many worry that season 19 may be his very last.
On top of that, Agent Bishop actress Emily Wickersham has officially left the series for good, leaving the show a bit short-staffed. Not to mention, they’re adding in a couple of new faces, Katrina Law, who we saw playing agent Knight in the finale, and Gary Cole.
Over the years, NCIS has said goodbye to some key cast members such as Michael Weatherly and Pauley Perrette. Weatherly played Anthony Dinozzo and Perette played the iconic Abby Scuito. Both exits could have weakened the show, but it’s still going strong as one of the highest-rated dramas in the world.
NCIS will return with season 19 this fall on CBS. The show also has three spinoffs two of which are also set to air in the fall. NCIS: Los Angeles season 13 will air this fall as well as the brand new NCIS: Hawai’i, which is currently filming.
