To all of the loyal NCIS fans out there, what is your honest opinion of Pauley Perrette’s character, Abby Sciuto, on the show?
Perrette is, of course, best known for playing the role of Abby on the popular military crime series. She was a part of the show for 15 years — from 2003 until 2018. That is a lot of time and seasons for a character to develop. But it turns out that there are a lot of NCIS fans that didn’t like the way Abby’s character changed as the show went on.
One user who goes by Princess_Tigger took to the popular Reddit forums to express their thoughts on Abby. They and many others agree that they prefer the Season 1 version of Pauley Perrette’s character.
“Rewatching from the beginning — noticed Abby was more of a looked and sounded as professional in Season 1; had a deeper husky voice..by the time Jenny Shepard comes in, Abby’s hair went wiry and voice took a high pitched and behaved more childish,” Princess_Tigger wrote. “I loved Abby and was sad to see her go — until I kept rewatching and much prefer the season 1 Abby Sciuto. Even the comrade between Gibbs (who talks a lot more in season vs current season) Kate and Tony is so normal.”
Other Reddit Users Respond to the ‘NCIS’ Abby Dilemma
More often than not, fans are split right down the middle when it comes to controversial NCIS topics. However, it seems like NCIS fans on Reddit at least are in full agreement that they prefer the earlier version of Abby Sciuto versus the later one.
“They decided they wanted her to be more “cute” instead of “goth,” one fan responded to the original post. “Her hair, makeup, voice, clothing, and dialogue all changed in there. I’m not sure whose opinion they were going off of, but it wasn’t mine. I liked version 1 of Abby.”
Reddit user Princess_Tigger completely agreed. They even brought up the fact that their late husband didn’t enjoy Abby’s character on NCIS either.
“Same here… All those episodes where she acts like a 5 year old child with Gibbs and Jenny Shepard. Suddenly it’s like I know why my late husband didn’t like her either 🤣”
Meanwhile, another fan left a comment to say that they had high hopes for Perrette’s character. But in the end, they were let down.
“I’ll absolutely agree with this,” another fellow Reddit user said. “She was legitimately the cool, smart, intriguing goth girl in the first season and I was really excited to see where they’d go with her. Unfortunately, where they went was the quirky girl stereotype meets childlike savant stereotype. She went from becoming the character I had the highest hopes for to the one I dislike the most. She had the most potential and yet ironically is the character that by far has the least development.”
