‘NCIS: Hawai’i’: Could There Be a Crossover With Another Iconic Crime Series?

by Anna Dunn

NCIS: Hawai’i is already in production, and fans are pondering the potential for a crossover event. A potential crossover between NCIS: Hawai’i and Hawai’i Five-0 certainly is a stretch, but is it impossible? Hawai’i Five-0 was canceled by CBS in 2020, but that doesn’t necessarily mean characters from the iconic series couldn’t feature on NCIS: Hawai’i.

Not only do the two shows have the same network and location, but an NCIS series has had a crossover event with Hawai’i Five-0 before. NCIS: Los Angeles characters and Hawai’i Five-0 characters crossed paths in a 2012 crossover event called ‘The Touch Of Death.”

‘Hawai’i Five-0’ Was Cancelled Despite Strong Ratings

While it’ll be nice for fans to have a Hawai’i-based show on CBS, Hawai’i Five-0, unfortunately, met its end after the contracts of multiple main actors expired. While renegotiation was a possibility, it seemed that actors decided to continue their careers elsewhere. CBS President of Entertainment Kelly Kahl Spoke of the decision in a statement.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye to a hit franchise that carried on the legacy of the original with such distinction while establishing its own signature style. Thanks to the amazing talents of the producers, writers, cast, and crew, it has played a key role for a decade on our schedule and helped establish our powerhouse Friday night,” he said.

So while the show may be over, there’s always room to play around with old characters or at least pay homage to the fan-favorite show over on NCIS: Hawai’i.

Could ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Crossover With Other ‘NCIS’ Series?

An NCIS crossover is far from unheard of. In fact, NCIS has a bit of a tradition with epic crossover episodes. NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Los Angeles, have all had crossover events. The idea that NCIS: Hawai’i could join the impressive history of NCIS crossovers is far from far-fetched.

In fact, producers have even hinted at a special crossover event with the cancelled NCIS: New Orleans.

NCIS: Hawai’i should be able to stand well on its own, however. With an impressive cast, stunning location, and name recognition, the show is truly set up to succeed.  Vanessa Lachey, Noah Mills, Jason Antoon, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Tori Anderson, and others are set to star in the upcoming series. Lachey will play leading Agent Jane Tennant. It’ll be the first NCIS series to feature a woman in its leading role.

Lachey took to Instagram to talk about the news, saying that “Honored is an understatement!”

“To join the NCIS franchise as the first female lead and to do it on the Beautiful Islands of Hawai’i…I still can’t believe it! Thank You CBS for believing in me!”

NCIS: Hawai’i will premiere this fall. It’ll join flagship show NCIS, which is heading into an impressive 19th season as well as NCIS: Los Angeles. Sadly, NCIS: New Orleans, which aired for 7 seasons, was canceled by the network this year. Still, this upcoming season of TV should be action-packed and worth the wait.
