‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Director Gives Behind-the-Scenes Look Showing Vanessa Lachey on Horseback

“NCIS: Hawai’i” star Vanessa Lachey is putting her horseback riding skills to work on the debut season of the spin-off show.

Director Larry Teng captured Lachey in action in a recent Instagram video. Teng, who’s directing at least the first four seasons of the new “NCIS” show, gave a behind-the-scenes look at filming.

In the video, we see Lachey and two others on horseback in a Hawaiian forest. Teng slowly moves his phone over the cameramen, who crouch behind a plant as they film Lachey and co. He settles on a screen showing Lachey and two men riding and then dismounting their horses to head into the woods.

The purpose of the post is not just to show behind-the-scenes “NCIS: Hawai’i” footage. It’s also so Teng can explain how the little details matter in a television shoot.

“Sometimes it’s just that little bit of foreground that makes the shot that much nicer,” Teng captions the post. “Here’s a BTS from Ep 104 showing how we added one little plant in front of the lens to help accentuate the movement of the camera.”

Sure enough, the camera movement makes more of an impact as you watch the plant move sideways on the screen. Teng is clearly a master of his craft.

And the rest of the “NCIS: Hawai’i” cast seem to agree. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” actor Noah Mills, who plays interrogation expert Jesse, was tagged in Teng’s photo. He commented on the director’s post, “So sick!! Can’t wait to see this ep come together.”

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Star Vanessa Lachey Practices Horseback Riding With Daughter

We already got a hint from Vanessa Lachey that horseback riding would play a big role in “NCIS: Hawai’i.” A few days ago, she posted a pic of herself on horseback with the Hawaiian mountains in the background. She captioned the post, “Hawaiian cowgirl.”

Luckily for the show writers, Lachey came into “NCIS” with her horseback riding skills down pat. Earlier this year, Lachey took up the hobby with her six-year-old daughter, Brooklyn. Lachey decided to spend some quality time with her daughter every Sunday morning by learning the English rider method with her.

“Back in the saddle again! After a break, B is back… and this time Mama is joining her,” the “NCIS” star wrote. “I can’t feel my toes and there are muscles in places I never knew existed, but man this feels special! I can’t wait for our adventures together! #MommyDaughterTime,” Lachey wrote.

The debut season of “NCIS: Hawai’i” will premiere on Monday, Sept. 20, right after the original show airs.
