‘NCIS: Hawai’i’: How Actor Vanessa Lachey is Surprisingly Connected to Her Character Jane Tennant

by Madison Miller

Viewers may not have gotten to connect with Jane Tennant, played by Vanessa Lachey, on “NCIS: Hawai’i” yet, but Lachey is already in deep with her character.

Lachey is making “NCIS” history too. She is the first female special agent and her character is in charge of the Pearl Harbor base. Her job requires her to oversee 40 other agents working at the base.

Vanessa Lachey Connection to ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Character

She has a special connection to this role as well. Vanessa Lachey was born at the 13th Air Force Regional Medical Center in Angeles City, Philippines. She is what some call an “Air Force brat.”

Lachey was constantly moving around as a young kid due to her father’s service in the Air Force. She went from Washington to California to Nevada to Florida to Germany to Japan during her childhood.

The actress recently spoke to TV Insider about one of the first clips fans will see in the new “NCIS: Hawai’i” series. Jane Tennant is coaching her 10-year-old’s soccer game when a massive Black Hawk helicopter sweeps into the scene and demands attention. An experimental aircraft had crashed into a cliff and it could be a result of foul play. Tennant’s presence at the scene is vital.

For Lachey, getting to film in that military-grade vehicle was a real full-circle moment connecting her personal life to her character’s career.

“Day 1, Hour 1, I’m in a Black Hawk. I’m going up, I’m landing, I’m walking off, standing tall and proud, [heading] toward a crime scene. I feel like I’m in a dream,” Lachey said to TV Guide Magazine.

“NCIS: Hawai’i” is going to premiere on Monday, September 20 at 10/9 CT on CBS. “NCIS: Los Angeles” will be on Sunday nights and the original “NCIS” is entering its 19th season on Monday nights.

Jane Tennant Personal Life

Jane Tennant has so far been described as a “badass with a warm heart.” Her job as the special agent in charge will often be dark, dangerous, and deadly, however, we’re also going to get a look into the personal life and emotions of Tennant.

She is a divorced mother of two children (a 10-year-old daughter named Julie and a 16-year-old son named Alex). She is going to have an interesting balance of intense work life as well as a busy full-time parenting role.

The show’s writers have also noted that Jane Tennant is not currently dating anyone. However, she’s not closed off to the possibility. There’s a lot of direction “NCIS: Hawai’i” can go with Tennant’s intricate and multi-dimensional lifestyle.

Lachey has revealed that her character will go through plenty of drama as well as people trying to challenge her authority.
