Ready to meet the cast of “NCIS: Hawai’i”? We’ve got the latest set photos and snippets to introduce the show’s main characters.
We already met Vanessa Lachey’s lead character, Jane Tennant, who’s Special Agent-in-Charge at NCIS Pearl Harbor. Now, it’s time to get to know some of the 40 agents she’ll be overseeing on the show’s debut season.
Meet The Cast Of ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’
Executive producers Jan Nash and Christopher Silber revealed set photos and bios for five main characters to TV Insider. They started off by introducing Alex Tarrant’s Kai Holman, who’s “The Local.”
Kai, an island native, joins the team when he returns to care for his sick father, Wally. We know that he left at 18 to join the Marines, but TV Insider indicates there might be more to his departure than we think.
Next up is “The Right-Hand Man,” Jesse Boone (Noah Mills). Jesse previously worked as a cop in Washington D.C., focusing specifically on urban crime. The father of three is described as “solid” and “the person Tennant relies on,” according to Nash.
Then we meet Yasmine Al-Bustami as Lucy Tara. “The Overachiever” more than earns her name throughout the season, doing all she can to prove her worth (mostly to herself) as the youngest member of the team. Nash indicated that this leads to her making “surprising choices when she’s trying to figure out how to do what she’s been told to do.” She’s originally from Texas.
The next member of the team is “The Tech Guru,” Ernie Malik. Played by Jason Antoon, Ernie’s constantly learning (including teaching himself Mandarin). And, of course, he knows everything there is to know about computers and tech. “Ernie has a competence to him that bleeds into everything he does,” Silber said.
Lastly, we have Tori Anderon’s Kate Whistler, who’s a “Question Mark.” She doesn’t belong on the NCIS team directly, but rather acts as a “conduit” between Tennant’s team and the Defense Intelligence Agency. She works for the latter in an unknown position. “On the surface, she seems much more interested in career and protecting herself,” Silber said. “But she really does want to help solve crime.”

How Does Vanessa Lachey’s Jane Tennant Work With Her Team?
Vanessa Lachey and her character Jane Tennant already have one thing in common: They’re both the first female leads in their positions.
“NCIS” has never had a female lead before now, on the original or spin-off shows. Similarly, Tennant will be the first woman to lead the NCIS Pearl Harbor base. But Tennant tries not to let this get in the way of doing her job.
“She’s making it work in a man’s world, and she doesn’t take no for an answer,” Lachey told TV Insider. “She finds her way into every opportunity she gets and comes out on the other end unscathed. At the same time, she’s human and she’s learning how to juggle her emotions and being a mother.”
Tennant also doesn’t let others do her dirty work. “[Jane] doesn’t bark orders and sit at her desk,” Lachey said. “She gets her hands dirty.”
