‘NCIS: Hawai’i’: New Set Pics Revealed of Vanessa Lachey’s Jane Tennant On and Off the Job

by Leanne Stahulak

With only a month to go until the premiere of “NCIS: Hawai’i,” showrunners are starting to tease glimpses of the characters on set.

Vanessa Lachey, who plays Special Agent-in-Charge Jane Tennant, features prominently in some brand new set photos leaked by TV Insider. The photos show a closer look at Tennant both on and off the job, specifically in a scene from the first episode.

Lachey told TV Insider how when we first meet Tennant, she’s coaching her 10-year-old daughter Julia’s soccer team. But Tennant gets pulled away from the game by an experimental aircraft colliding with a cliff. Her NCIS team sends a Black Hawk helicopter to pick her up from the game and investigate the crime scene.

“Day 1, Hour 1, I’m in a Black Hawk. I’m going up, I’m landing, I’m walking off, standing tall and proud, [heading] toward a crime scene,” Lachey told TV Guide Magazine. “I feel like I’m in a dream.”

The set photos almost look like a dream, with Lachey as Tennant rocking her soccer coach uniform with the Black Hawk in the background. She’s wearing an adorable pink camo track jacket with her NCIS badge dangling over it. Tennant looks worriedly off to one side as crime scene personnel and officers walk through the background.

The second set photo reveals the moments before the helicopter comes down for the “NCIS” star. Tennant sits on a cooler, clipboard in hand as she smiles at a group of little girls. The girls all wear matching pink camo uniforms (the same as Tennant’s jacket) that say “Kahala Warriors” on them.

Who is Vanessa Lachey’s ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Character Jane Tennant?

In the same TV Insider post, we’re introduced to Jane Tennant by Lachey and executive producers Jan Nash and Christopher Silber.

Lachey’s character will be the first female lead on any “NCIS” show. Similarly, Jane Tennant will be the first female boss at the NCIS Pearl Harbor base. But that was an intentional decision.

“We never really talked about anything other than a female lead,” said Nash.

This does create some problems for Tennant in the workspace, as she oversees 40 agents. “She’s making it work in a man’s world, and she doesn’t take no for an answer,” Lachey revealed. “She finds her way into every opportunity she gets and comes out on the other end unscathed. At the same time, she’s human and she’s learning how to juggle her emotions and being a mother.”

In addition to her daughter, Tennant also has a 16-year-old son named Alex. She’s divorced but could be seeing some romance in her future.

“Jane is not dating at the moment, but she’s not closed off,” Lachey said. Silber corroborated this by saying, “We might find some romantic entanglements.”

But at the end of the day, Lachey summed up her character in one way. “She’s a badass with a warm heart.”
