The series premiere of “NCIS: Hawai’i” is less than a month away. And Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant actress Vanessa Lachey is beyond excited. She took to Twitter today, posting a sneak peek of the official CBS trailer for the show that is set to air tonight in its entirety.
For Lachey, it’s more than a simple promotional tweet. It’s an emotionally significant moment for not only her but also for the world of “NCIS.”
“Jane Tennant, Special Agent in Charge NCIS Hawai’i,” Lachey says to open the trailer. “You’d think I’d be past needing a caffeine fix by now.”
The “exclusive first look” gives “NCIS” fans a glimpse of some of the action they can expect from Season 1. And by the looks of it, there’s going to be plenty of it. A truck blasts through a warehouse wall, Tennant boards a private plane to make an arrest, and she’s shown during a knife fight in a domestic kitchen. “NCIS: Hawai’i” promises to deliver an exciting addition to the world of the hit crime franchise.
And those “tough” tears Lachey described are well earned. After all, her character represents the first time a female has been in charge of a team on an “NCIS” affiliated show.
“I am the first female lead of an NCIS franchise and I don’t take that lightly. And I’m excited to bring a different layer to this role and hopefully inspire this next generation of young girls and women. My character, Jane Tennant, a special agent in charge of NCIS, is a mother of a 15-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. That is real life, struggling (to juggle) life, love and work,” Lachey described her role in a teaser trailer from May.
Vanessa Lachey Wants to Do Justice to the ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Setting
Vanessa Lachey’s own backstory doesn’t sound all that far off one you’d expect from an NCIS agent. She’s a military brat and is no stranger to Pacific islands. As such, she’s a great fit for the Jane Tennant character on “NCIS: Hawai’i.”
“Hawaii is the perfect setting for NCIS and the next chapter of the franchise. I, myself, have traveled there a little bit. I was born on an Air Force base in the Philippines and passed through Hawaii — I obviously know the first layer when people pass through. You see the beautiful waters and the beaches,” Lachey continued in the May teaser.
It’s not just that she’s a good fit, however. She wants to represent Hawai’i in a way that would make the locals proud.
“But what I’m interested to show is the depth of the people of Hawaii. There’s so much beauty there, there’s so much culture there. And hopefully, I can portray the beauty there and the beautiful side of Hawaii,” Lachey finished.
